Does the infection cause possession of the body or does it slay and destroy the host?

The host is consumed to spawn the beast.

How many of the creatures did you encounter? How many did you slay before you fell back?

"By my count, five.  Only one I am sure was destroyed, by Karl.  But he was horribly wounded in doing so.  The creature exploded acid when it died.  Anders did better keeping them at bay with his bow.  Kara was defending Karl when she was dragged away.  Tarin picked me up to try we eventually found her.   It was too late, she had been infected."

Barek offers

"Well, the last party lost 4 inside, so if you start with 5, one destroyed, then means there are at least 9 now.  If each fallen hero produces one spawn.  Wirlpakura also suggests an unknown number of larval creatures.  Fun "

He summons his pistols from the little fanny pack of holding and starts checking their operation and cleaning them

Laz asks: Do you have a sense of how much of the complex you explored? If not, how long did it take you to advance to the point when you encountered these creatures? How long total were you inside?

Cyrus asks: Pastor Oz, can you speak with the fallen maiden?

I certainly can, but will need to pray for one hour to do so.

"We took it slow, having some idea how dangerous these creatures are.  We didn't expect many.  We had searched the area and determined there was no other way into the complex.  We were sure there would only be one, since we didn't see any other way for someone to have been infected.  We assumed that since this used to be a Iottian lab, that's how the one came to be.  With that in mind, Anders had brought a slaying arrow that would have killed the one.  All that fell apart when we were attacked by several."  it gets back to the point of the question after a pause.

"Not long, the entire first level when we were attacked, which was maybe two hours.  After we regrouped and went back in, maybe ten more hours."

Jesse asks: Were any of the party casters?  If so, did they have any means of ensuring their magic worked correctly?

Depending on what part of 816 they adventured, magic may not have been broken yet, although they would likely still need Iottian rings regardless. If the fallen are wearing them, we may need to retrieve them to be more impactful in our rescue mission.

Is Kara's corpse wearing an Iottian ring?

Rano asks Wirlpakura if he knows if any of Kara's travelling companions were wearing Iottian rings.

I am less concerned about the rings and more concerned with the wild ways my and others of our party's spells have gone awry since crossing the boundary to this part of Iott.

816, if I had types 316 that was an error.

A cleric of Han~Sui, we knew arcane magic was challenging here.  That is why we brought the gremlin.  It was able to manage the magic and cast with some control.
