The end of an Era has come. Magic is broken. New Heroes are needed to face the challenges of the new Age!
Ajax let's out a low, guttural, (very Orcish) snarl. "I bear the Stalker no I'll will but I will not fight beside the servants of Baenrl. The fey are misguided and slipping towards damnation. The fire giants and their "allies" are already there waiting for them.""Ellic, I will not abandon you or Commander Bradtree but I may choose to fight more of this battle on my own."
It depends on if it is a class skill for your class; but for most base classes 1 point to speak and 1 to read/write. Monk and Cleric would both be 1 and 1. Kordan would be 1 and 2.
Does this include the language of your native people? For example, if you're an Elf, do you need to spend 1 skill point at 1st level to be able to speak Elven? I've always played it so that I spent a point on my native tongue. If that's not necessary, I'll get 1 skill point back per each of my characters.

And Common?
Tyrogatore teaches us that even though all Vass have teeth, they will not all try to bite you. Individuals are judged based on their actions, not on their race or country of origin. I will give the giants an opportunity to prove themselves.
"Is there anyone else that you would like to take?"
