Starfaring Crew / Re: That Can't Me A Solar, Can It?

Q lingers in the maintenance shop waiting for an alarm to sound.

Expanded Sunny continues to keep the Solar pinned to the floor with the spear. “Ultimatum. Attention Hostile. Surrender unconditionally or your life support functions will be deactivated. This offer will expire in 10…9…8…7…”

The double doors at the one end of the workshop open up into a storage room, which is the fourth quadrant of the hemisphere. Racks of shelving are arranged perpendicularly to the outer curved wall. They are mostly empty except for a couple of boxes. A hazardous liquid storage cabinet sits adjacent to the double doors. At the far end of the storage room is what looks like a small fighting circle with a mostly empty weapon rack and 2 mannequins (1 dohwar and 1 humanoid) staged nearby it. This room, like the others, is chilly but not freezing.

Q doesn’t linger in the storage room. He ushers you through a door that leads back to the antechamber. He hops back on his Doom Chariot and secures his harness. He trumpets another phrase in dohwar and there’s another flash. You are both back in the ship’s maintenance shop.

“Well there you have it. My Lair is open to your use with my supervision provided you help me with my research on the living construct. Knowledge of both my Lair and my research is Top Secret and I will not hesitate to unleash my fury upon you if you let it slip. Questions?”

“Let me show you the other 2 rooms.”

Q walks out of the study back into the center antechamber where you first arrived and enters a door on the opposite side. This room is another quadrant of the hemisphere and appears to be a workshop. There are work tables scattered throughout the space with several multidrawer tool chests stationed about the area. On closer inspection, the tools are of very fine quality and there are some that you aren’t familiar with. A portion of one wall is a rack of drawers that looks like a card catalogue full of misc mechanical parts like screws, bolts, nuts, gears, etc. There’s a drafter’s table, a flat file, and more chalk boards. An overhead rail system with a bridge crane runs to a set of double doors at the end of the room. In the far corner of the room on the opposite side is a small alchemy lab, which  appears to have been stopped in the middle of some process based on the bluish white residue in the glassware. Ther’s a crate of empty vials staged on the benchtop.

Understood.

Have you kept a log of your efforts? And how about asking any of the new crew if they have heard of a world or sphere where others like Sunny can be found.
“Of course I have I log.” Q turns and waddles over to the one door at the end of the curved room and opens it. You see living quarters on the other side of the door. The room is the same size and shape as the study and done in the same Bond villain futuristic decor. There’s a large circular bed, dressers, a small dining table with 4 sleek chairs, and a kitchen area. On the wall that arcs up to the ceiling is a large mural depicting the same group of 4 dohwar shown in the study’s portrait but this time in a variety of very explicit intimate positions.

Q goes over to a nightstand next to the bed and grabs a book. He brings it out to Dr. Hat and closes the door behind him. “Here’s the log.”  It’s written entirely in dohwar.

“Have you inquired of “him” or any of the more experienced spelljammers if they have seen his like before? Or what world he hails from? I am game for the project as long as we don’t have to harm him.”
“I haven’t made this investigation known to anyone. And no one knows this place exists. Remember that and keep it that way.

I’ve asked Sunny about his origins, but he appears to be missing records of his ‘life’ before his assignment that ultimately led to his capture by Re’Alph’s minions. Curiously, several features of his design have been disabled. I’ve managed to reactivate some of them in my tinkering, but there are others that remain offline. Someone put forth some effort to neuter him.

And of course I wouldn’t harm him. He is our only available specimen right now, we have to keep him functional.”

Opening the door in front of him, Q leads you into a study. The room is one quadrant of a hemisphere. It’s about 20 from the door you just came through to the outer wall circumference, where the wall curves upwards and inwards. There’s a door at one end of the room arc, and you’re  smart enough to figure out that this place probably has 3 more rooms laid out like a Simon game inside an igloo.

The study’s decor is like a 60’s supervillain lair from the Bond movies. Stark white, furniture is sleek, minimalistic, and futuristic - smooth lines, few details, and odd shapes. There are egg shaped chairs with orange upholstery. A bowl shaped couch suspended from the ceiling. Full bookshelves run along the wall next to a busy but neat desk. Chalkboards hang in several places, on them are copious notes, equations, and pieces of paper. Your attention is initially drawn to a very large portrait hanging above the couch of 4 dohwar - a prominent female figure in the center and 3 males subserviently posed around her. One of them is clearly Q.

As you take in the painting, Q waddles over to a chalkboard and knocks loudly to get your attention. “This is why I brought you here. I’ve been collecting data on that living construct as I’ve been repairing it.” You see upon closer inspection that the board is full of notes and sketches of parts of Sunny. “I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s a bizarre mix of magic, psionics, technology, and…something else. I must recreate it. Imagine an army of sentient constructs at my command. Re’Alph and his minions would never stand a chance. Revenge would be MINE…But it is advanced and the secret eludes my great intellect. Perhaps you could be of use. Your knowledge of living things and technology could be the key. Let’s review what I know, shall we?”

Q lifts the box up and underneath on the table is a slightly glowing snow globe, glass sphere about the size of a softball, sitting in an intricate brass base. Inside the sphere is an igloo, which is the source of the faint glow. Q picks it up, gives it a hearty shake, and quickly clamps it back down on the table. While the snow inside is still swirling, he grabs your arm, touches the globe, and quietly trumpets some phrase in dohwar. There’s a flash of light.

When your eyes clear, you and Q are standing in a cylindrical room about 10 ft in diameter and 25 ft high. It’s cool, but not freezing, probably 50 degF. The walls are large, stacked, bluish white blocks that look like snow but are firm to the touch. The ceiling is a glass dome, and outside of it you see a panoramic view of the maintenance shop. There are 4 doors, 90 degrees apart. Q hops off his Doom Chariot and walks over to 1 of them.

“No going back now. Follow me. And wipe your feet before you enter.”

“Excellent!” (What’s a roach?)
Assuming you show up to the maintenance shop on time, Q ushers you in then closes, locks and bars the door behind you. The shop is surprisingly empty. No tools out, no works in progress, clean workbenches. With the exception of a single ornate box clamped on one table.

“If you speak a word to anyone about what I’m going to show you today, it will be the last thing you do. My wrath will be merciless. My current plan would be to chemically incapacitate you while you sleep, drag you back to this workshop, and spend the rest of my days finding new and creative ways to shove your entire needle collection into your exoskeleton while you sit there aware but unable to move or scream. Or I may improvise. Are we clear?”

At some point after our encounter with the fire bat, Q tracks down Dr. Hat, rolling up to him aggressively/eagerly on his Doom Chariot. He rocks back and forth on it anxiously as he speaks to you.

“You! Hat Roach! Today is your lucky day. I have something to show you that you won’t want to miss. It’s about that living construct. Come to my maintenance shop at 6 bells. Be prompt. And bring a jacket.”

Lakini looks for a quiet space to meditate.
You better stay out of the Maintenance Shop.

RECAP
After the fight, we searched the remaining rooms including the main vault. Only Aeroblade was able to enter, but reported that there was nothing there of value. With the vault looted, Aeroblade suggested we move on to another planet where another vault resides.

Do we think the neogi have Lemugem’s contingency plan? Should we be worried about that?

So we’re giving command of the ship to some guy we just met?

I thought that fight actually went pretty well, all things considered.

And I decided on the drive home that the stormtrooper penguin constructs shall henceforth be known as DohWarmachines.

There are enough materials for that.
What would the design and craft DCs and durations be?

Ich.. do you have wood to make something?  I need a perch for my staff for me to perch on
Can Q design and fashion a simple clicker for the staff perch from the scrap in his secret lair? I imagine a wall mounted folding bracket that provides a cantilever support for the staff.
