Title: D&D Next
Post by: Asinjin on May 25, 2012, 10:14:03 AM
I downloaded the playtest rules for the new edition.  Initial quick review is that it is closer to 3rd than 4th.

That is pretty cool.  It will be nice to have content that we can use again.

First thing they stole from us: Channel Divinity.  Clerics get a power, not necessarily Turn Undead.

I like the name for it.  I was trying to think of a cool name for it.

They plan to do a year of playtesting from what I have read, so 3Q 2013 at the earliest.

Got the next set of playtest material.

The races are back to 2nd edition format.  Three types of halflings, two types of dwarves, elves, and humans.  Made me smile.

More good news.   The alignments are back, with the addition of unaligned for Oozes and such.

Sounds awesome.  Hopefully we will be able to incorporate a lot of it.

An update on things I've learned about D&D Next.

It won't be released until 2nd quarter 2014, supposedly.

Monte Cook was originally called in to help, but has left.

They are working hard to get the rights to D&D back in house (so Hasbro can back the movie).  One reason they are reportedly going to use pre-D&D material is because they have the rights to it.
