The spells on the list have been altered somewhat. The ability remains the same as the PHB (except with our usual once per level per day addition).
1st - Pro from Good / Evil
2nd - Pro from Arrows
3rd - Pro from Energy
4th - Spell Immunity
5th - Spell Resistance
6th - Antimagic Field
7th - Energy Immunity
8th - Greater Spell Immunity
9th - Mind Blank
Thoughts?

I don't like two things about the list. First, and I don't have the spells in front of me as I write this, most of the spells are personal or one creature spells. Protection to me has an altruistic component to it so I would want to see some group spells. Second all of the high level spells are magic resistance/protection spells. One or more should be swapped for physical defense.
-
9. Effulgent Epuration (SpC) - Creates one sphere/level to negate hostile magic.
-
All of the spells listed that are not area spells can be cast on a target creature, not just the caster.
I want to replace Spell Resistance at 5th with one of two spells:
Zone of Respite (blocked magical travel in an area)
Telepathy Block (blocks psionics in area)
For 9th level, another option would be Prismatic Sphere.
Thoughts?
-
I would go with Telepathy Block over the Zone. I think Ironguard or Starmantle would also be a good fit for this domain.
-
Starmantle is Exalted, and I think we decided against them in the domains.
-
1st - Pro from Good / Evil
2nd - Pro from Arrows
3rd - Pro from Energy
4th - Spell Immunity
5th - Telepathy Block
6th - Antimagic Field
7th - Energy Immunity
8th - Greater Spell Immunity
9th - Prismatic Sphere
Thoughts?

Here is something I would consider about protection. I feel the protection domain is about spells to help other people. I have read the list and it sounds good but I haven't check if some of the spells are self only. If so I have a suggestion for something to add into the protection domain ability. How about any adjuration spell that is self only can be used on other people (ie sanctuary) or at least any one on the protection domain spell list.
-
I don't like telepathy block and I feel shield other at 2nd level should definitely be on the list. I feel it is a staple protection spell.
Possible replacements for 5th:
Field of Resistance; stoneskin, spell resistance, Break Enchantment; Divine Retribution, Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum
-
1st - Pro from Good / Evil (creature touched)
2nd - Pro from Arrows (creature touched)
3rd - Pro from Energy (creature touched)
4th - Spell Immunity (creature touched)
5th - Field of Resistance (20 foot radius)
6th - Antimagic Field (10 foot radius)
7th - Energy Immunity (creature touched)
8th - Greater Spell Immunity (creature touched)
9th - Prismatic Sphere (10 foot radius)
I think a spell that protects from physical and effects a group instead of Antimagic field is needed.
-
2nd level - Shield other protects from physical attacks.
-
That is more useful than Pro from Arrows, lets put that in there.
-
I'd still like to see another physical defense spell- some type of armor, stone skin, iron guard etc.
-
I agree, in place of one of the Spell Immunity.
-
1st - Pro from Good / Evil (creature touched)
2nd - Shield Other (creature touched)
3rd - Pro from Energy (creature touched)
4th - ???
5th - Field of Resistance (20 foot radius)
6th - Antimagic Field (10 foot radius)
7th - Energy Immunity (creature touched)
8th - Greater Spell Immunity (creature touched)
9th - Prismatic Sphere (10 foot radius)
One spell left to complete this domain.
-
This one is easy to finish, just need a 4th level spell.
-
Stoneskin?
-
I'd say no based on the gc cost.

I agree but this is sad and I think we should still consider reevaluating the cost of the spells. At least we could consider changing the ones in the PHB which are common . Stoneskin is a staple spell and I can't even think of when it has been used by a PC. I agree that the DM shouldn't be giving out gold like the rules suggest because it doesn't make sense from a roleplaying sense. However, I think we should at least make exception then for some of the cost of the spells in the PHB. Stone skin and the holy water spell come to mind off the top of my head.

I agree with this but also don't forget the house rule that clerics/devotees can use xp to cast domain spells at the magic item creation rate so that mitigates the cost considerably.
For this spell we need a physical resistance of some sort, the domain is weighted heavily towards defense against spells.
-
Still looking for a 4th level physical defense spell.
-
#4 Resilient Sphere?
-
And clerics already have access to protection from good/evil, how about something different? Alarm?
-
I like Resilient Sphere at 4th.
Pro from Good / Evil is a staple of protection, I am hesitant to remove it.
-
1st - Pro from Good / Evil (creature touched)
2nd - Shield Other (creature touched)
3rd - Pro from Energy (creature touched)
4th - Resilient Sphere
5th - Field of Resistance (20 foot radius)
6th - Antimagic Field (10 foot radius)
7th - Energy Immunity (creature touched)
8th - Greater Spell Immunity (creature touched)
9th - Prismatic Sphere (10 foot radius)
Granted Power same as PHB.
Unless anyone has any issues, I will lock this one tomorrow.

I am not big on resilient sphere. It is not meant to be used as a protection spell. It is meant to be used to capture someone. It doesn't even give the option to not make a save on the spell. So the spell might not even work when you cast it on someone to protect them. I know we have a house rule that says you choose to accept the spell but if it was meant for protection they would have put it in there I am pretty sure. I will try to look for another option tomorrow if I get a chance so don't look it quite yet.

Agreed. Is there a mass armor spell of some sort?

Iron Bones
(Ghostwalk)
Transmutation
Level: Cleric 4, Sorcerer 4, Wizard 4
Components: V, S, AF,
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Target: Corporeal undead creature touched
Duration: 10 minutes/level
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)
You cause the skeleton of the target to become thicker and as strong as iron.
This gives the target a +5 natural armor bonus to AC.
The spell has no effect on creatures that have no skeleton but works normally on creatures that have exoskeletons (such as insects).
Focus: A miniature skull carved of iron or steel.

This is a great spell but it only affects undead unless I'm reading it incorrectly.
"Target: Corporeal undead creature touched"
Would you allow this to be used on any creature?

Opps, missed that part, next.
