Where do you get the small animal? You will need a bird of some sort.

It can go and signal that you are done, however, they may not know what to do with the information.

No dolphins are not near the base (not sure how you would know if they were even if they were near). There are probably seagulls around, but it is the middle of the night, so they aren't obvious or as active.

Much farther, at least 9. You got off shortly after Chase detected the ships and it moved back to ensure it wouldn't be detected.
