Title: Setting up the League
Post by: Terrorshard on April 16, 2013, 01:20:21 AM
Here is some info on the different types available.  http://forum.bloodbowl-game.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=280

I was thinking of setting up a championship then follow that up with a playoff for the top teams.

I would like to get 8 teams.  Right now I think we have 5.

I like that setup.  I am going to try and talk my cousin into playing.  If he does decide to play he might need a little time to get used to the game since he has never even played any type of miniature game before.

You can also create your starting team now if you want.  You go to Multiplayer then sign up for a log in.  Then go to the bottom and hit create a team.

I am still trying to decide which team to run.  Humans are now in front, but Necro are close.

I'm probably set on Skaven.  I'm still looking into how the league actually plays out.  Then we need to make a few decisions.  Are we going to allow star players?

I plan to be the Wood Elves.

I think we should limit it to one type of team in the league, so only one skaven, only one human, etc.

I vote no to star players (such as Morg N Thorg) if that is what you mean.

I don't think it is fair to limit the teams because some teams are clearly better then the others.  Also I wouldn't worry about it to much because even with out a rule we all picked a different team.   I don't care either way about star players.  I think they can help you in the short term but hinder you in the longer term because they get SPP that your other players might other wise get.

Hey guys.  I'm Adam, Greg's friend.  I really like the talk we're having regarding the league rules and such.  I would have to agree with the idea that we shouldn't limit one team per race, but it seems everyone is going to play something different anyway (I'll prolly either play Amazons, Norse, or Lizards).  As for star players, we outlawed them in the offline league I played in when I was in school, but looking back, it really doesn't matter.  In a one-of game, yeah they are unfair, but in this scenario it's a real gamble, but it can help you if your team is behind.  The only other thing we have to decide on is whether to you the classic rules or the blitz rules for the league.  There's subtle differences but I'm leaning toward classic rules personally.  As far as start date for the league, i want to give everyone a little bit of time to play the game for themselves before we start, but I'd def want to get the 8 players first.

We are for sure going to use the regular turn based Blood Bowl rules.

Welcome Adam,

Since it looks like we are all doing different teams, it doesn't seem to be a problem.  I just wouldn't want to see 4 of the same team.

In all the leagues I've been in (and they were mostly 10 years ago or more, we never allowed Star Players.  However, as I think about it, one of the major reasons was we played with minis, and no one had the correct minis for star players.  Still, I would prefer to not allow them.

As for Classic vs Blitz, I prefer classic.

I agree we need to give everyone time to get used to the rules and controls.  I also think 8 team would be a good number.  Does anyone know if you can have an AI team mixed on a league with human teams?

I'm not sure about the AI thing, but as far as filling up the 8 spots, I can get a couple of my DOTA 2 friends to play if we need to fill the space.  So there won't be a need for an AI team.

I might play chaos instead of the elves.   I probably won't play the wood elves now that I think about it because they are to fragile for a long season especially if we do more then one season with the same team.

But they all have AG4 and Wardancers are great.

Wood Elves are a great team.  Yeah they start out not so great but they mature really well over time, so for multiple seasons, they are quite good.

Game play question.  If you are standing next to an opponent  and you want to use your blitz to block and continue moving throw then how do you do that.  I find this most useful for a ball carrier and I am pretty sure I used to do it playing miniatures but can't seem to figure it out in the video game.

You click on the player you want, then click the blitz symbol on the right hand side.  Its yellow with a lightning bolt.  It is lit until you use your blitz for the turn.

I have some more questions about the league.

How many games is the season?

If we play a second season do we plan to use the same exact teams again?  Is that even possible with the league setup to use the same team season after season or do you have to start with a new team.

I think this info would be helpful in picking my team.

My preference would be for multiple season with the same team and people could pick a new team if they want.

Also does it allow you to add in new players after the first season?

The amount of games basically comes down to how many teams and if we decide to each play each other only once or twice.  You can continue to use the same team over multiple seasons and we can do that if you guys would like.

Yeah, I'm all for multiple seasons as well.  It makes things really interesting.  As far as adding new teams into new seasons, its probably doable, I just have to figure out how.

Multiple seasons would be great.  The most I've made it through with one team was 24 games, getting halfway into season 3.  That was tabletop.

It can get tricky, because at the end of season 2, one player's team was so decimated that he started a new team.  It was also tough to convince new players to come in with existing team with higher ratings.  But I think both of those things are made easier with the online version.

My cousin is in.  He is going to pickup the game and start practicing.  He has never played a table miniature before so I am sure it will take him a bit to get used to it.

Great!  Have him join the forums as well.  We'll do anything we can to help him get acclimated to the game faster.

I was looking at the league options.

There doesn't appear to be a traditional NFL style season.  There are Cups, play-offs, pools, etc.

I think the best bet for us is a double round robin with 8 teams.  That would give each team 14 games and allow us to let 4 make the playoffs.  We could do 1 or 2 divisions.

Well I was leaning more toward the Grand Slam style league, which is a season followed by a cup style tournament.  That way everyone is in it til the very end and everyone gets to play more games.

This is the way I envisioned it, only the playoffs would have to be made after the regular season with the playoff option and only invite the top 4.

If you want to put players from your bench on the field, how do you switch your players out and when are you able to do that?

Before the kick off, as you set up players.

Click on the player in the bench and the on a player on the field.

Have we decided on how we are setting it up?  Send me a pm with how to do it correctly.

We should vote on the options.   Asinjin do you know what the different options are?  I will also look later today to see what options are available.  I think most of them are straight forward so it might not matter.

- Blitz vs Classic
- daily, weekly, or free timed
- wizards or no
- star players or no
- range of team rating
- max number of cheerleaders and coaches

There are lots of categories

Although I am a pretty big Donovan fan.  I don't like that he didn't quite get the Philadelphia fan.  I don't think I would want to play in a league with his name on it.  IF I was going to pick an Eagle I would pick Brian Dawkins.  So I would suggest the Brian Dawkins Memorial Cup or a Fantasy name.

Here are my votes.

League Name (I suggest the Brian Dawkins Memorial Cup or a fantasy based league name)
League Description
Tournament Type (Championship or Cup) What is the difference between a cup and a championship in blood bowl
# of Team ( 8 )
Double Round Robin (yes)
Play off Level (4)
Match Frequency (Free because we need to factor in vacations and weeks people might not be able to play at all for legitimate reasons.  (ie.  I will be going away the week of July 14th and won't be able to play at all).
Apothecary (yes)
Max Re-rolls ( 8 )
Magic (wizard)
Max Fan Factor (18)
Max Cheerleaders (10)
Max Star Level (7)
Turn Based
Turn Limit (4:00)
Team Value Min (750)
Team Value Max (no max) I don't think we need a max.  Let the players decide because high can be a disadvantage anyway.
Trophy (14) What is this?
Prize Money (40K / 80K)
Extended Inducements (yes)
Kick Off Events (yes)
Training (no) What is training?
Star Players (yes)

The trophy is only what the winner's trophy will look like, they give a bunch of choices.

Training is only available in Blitz mode, so I guess that is irrelevant for us.

I think a max of 2500 is pretty high, i doubt we'd even reach it

I agree but why limit it let people make there own decisions to manage there team.

I forgot you have to make a new league for each season so like you said there is no chance of getting to 2500 this season but for future season I would like to keep the cap open.
