The Yellowians all return, Timothy brings the horses.

Saron's healing field negates any of the additional damage you took fighting the wraiths (except for Finn who can't be hurt by them with his light).

Yikes! I know I'm higher level but that's about the most XP ever posted by DM!  What did I miss?

Here's the quick summary:

Saren came up with a plan that basically consisted of "Let's go out there and kill all the wraiths."  Only Finn was agreeable to the plan at first.  Slowly the others came around with Harris last of all.  And only because he was told that he would have the protection from Negative energy cast on him and Saren lent him a Greater Truedeath Crystal for his hammer.  Prior to leaving we talked to the Yellowian group about the illusion and what could be causing it/how powerful a being would it take to cast it.  Harrick created a skelatal undead horse to ride to see them.  Saren and Finn were not too pleased with that.  we talked with Marsha, the Yellowian Sorcereress about the illusion and when we got our answers we headed back to town.  During this little jaunt, Harrick said something that didn't sit well with Saren, and Saren turned his undead horse.

We decided to head out to the well and timed it so that we would have about an hour of darkness left before sunrise, so that if this plan went sideways (as it was likely to do) we would not have to run for long before the Wraiths would be forced back due to the daylight.  We arrived, the airship took everyone but the Yellowians and Saren, who all had horses and were more comfortable riding most of the way to the well.  It planned to stay 5 miles or so away and be ready to come to our rescue should it be needed.  We went the rest of the way on foot and hoof.  One of the Yellowians stayed well out of range with the horses while Christopher, Marsha, and their Cleric of Falon (Thomas?) came with us.  On our way we discovered Christopher and Marsha would not have protection from the CON drain attack of the wraiths and they stayed well behind the rest of the group, but planned to attack with ranged weapons and spells.

Once we reached the well, we prepared as best we could.  There were a flurry of blessings and buff spells.  Finn summoned a dire bat and sent it into the well.  Moments later the now terrified bat came careening out of the well.  As it did, we heard the unmistakable sound of the wraiths coming closer.

Sly cast enlarge person on Harris, who was standing right by the edge of the well.  With his newly gained 10 foot reach, Harris was in the absolute perfect position to wreak havoc on the wraiths as they exploded out of the well.  With the combination of his attacks of opportunity, great cleave ability, the Greater Truedeath Crystal, and enlarged self, Harris played out an erie version of wack-a-mole with the wraiths.  If it were not for a "we just capsized the boat" level of horrific rolling on our part, Harris would have easily taken out 1/3 of the wraiths by himself.

As this first wave was erupting from the well, Finn cast a spell and essentially put a lid of gnashing force jaws over the well that caused damage to everything that passed through them, which happened to be all of the rest of the wraiths.  Meanwhile, Marsten unleashed some Ghosttouched shotgun and bullet mayhem of his own and Harrick used spells and meteors to good effect.  Arrows and lightning rained down on the wraiths from our Yellowian friends in the rear and Saren Went toe to toe with those who dared face him.

Sly cast Cat's Grace on Harris, which allowed for even more attacks of opportunity.  Harris gleefully went to town on the passing wraiths.  After 120 small (normal sized) wraiths exited the well, there were 2 larger ones followed by an even larger one.  After the largest wraith floated out of the well, only Harris succumbed to the fear it generated, and while Harris didn't flee, he was no longer had a real effect in the battle.

The wraiths attacked, and were killed by sword, spell and arrow.  Finn cast a spell that made them not able to attack him at all and was only (temporarily) brought down by a cone of cold by one of the larger wraiths.  With the appearance of the largest wraith, everyone who was able focused their attacks on it and in short order it was sent to its eternal rest.  With the largest now out of the way, it was just a matter of time before the rest were decimated.

Oh yeah, and a few days before that some settlers were killed by an undead thing and we went out to investigate.  Saren utterly destroyed it

Marston, Finn, and Saron into the well.  Sly, Harris, and the Yellowians up top?

Marsha asks, "Do any of you need a Fly spell?"

Harrick casts fly on himself and slowly lowers himself down the whole with the grace of a ballerina.

Those flying get to the bottom (above the water) without issue.  How to you search around?

Detect Magic, otherwise I watch the others.

Nothing in the immediate surroundings.  However, as you learned last time, the area down here is large.

Harrick, can you cast a light spell on a pebble or something?  I can't see anything down here.

Once I can see, I'll take 20 on searching the well.  That includes searching for items as well as secret passageways, gravesites, people's remains, lich phylactery's, artifacts, strange markings, and anything else that might tie this place to the Skull Lord.

Saren has his Detect Evil constantly pinging around them. In fact Saren will fly to the edge of the light and watch the perimeter while detecting.

I did not prepare control water or water breathing today, so I'll handle the aquatic part of this investigation.

Finn activates daylight from his armor, casts spider climb on himself, wild shapes into a crocodile, and scurries down the side of the well. I walk along the ceiling until I come to an edge of the cavern, then dive into the water.

I will search the floor and submerged portions of the wall systematically. I make liberal use of detect magic.

The fly doesn't last long enough for you to take 20.

There is lingering evil everywhere, but you are confident there is no active evil.

The water is five feet high, roughly.

Finn is searching under the water.

There are lots of undead fish that attack Finn, I will assume that after the use of some attacks and minor spells you destroy the creates that do 1d2-1 points of damage on a hit.

"No, I don't have any more.. and I'm tired "  as he flies up and out of the hole before his runs out. (he's out of that spell slot )

Fair enough.  I suppose I won't be taking 20 after all.  I can't exactly search in 5 ft. of water.  I'll wait for Finn to finish his search and offer assistance if need be.

What I can do is search the walls and crevasses for anything suspicious.  At least until the fly spell wears off.

Once Finn finishes off the undead fish, does my undead detection still go off or does it wink out with the last fish?

Waiting for everyone to be out of turn attempts.. I use my first attempt to control them and make them form the symbol of Falan, and then arrow pointing at Saren, then.. after a belly laugh.. I use the rest of my attempts to destroy them.

Assuming the floor of the cavern isn't perfectly flat, Harris tries to find a high spot on the floor so that as much of his torso as possible is above the water. If he doesn't find a spot where his shoulders are completely out of the water he climbs back out. (Either way muttering not quietly about no one listening to him about the water)

You find a spot.

Those on the surface see the earth move to the east of the ruins.  It then stops moving.  A quick look shows that it looks like a creature burrowed up and went back down.  It is an area about two feet across and there is a small mound.

The Yellowians investigate and find no trace of animals, nor do they find any magic effect.
