The spear is evil, so when we take that to the Seven Heavens gate town, we have it destroyed.

Once the others get into the seven heavens, how easy is it for us to get back to Habololy?

Kerkly finishes preparing the Plane Shift, but before that point, I assume that Ares does whatever he is going to do, other than run through the girl.  If Kerkly and Parker are still alive by the time I finish, I survey the battlefield before casting.

I call the 16 Archons to me while this is going on and have them Aid Parker and I once they reach us.  Once Ares arrives, they flee.  If he leaves, they return to me.

Just a note on Parkers 'Craven' feat:  The prerequisite for taking the feat is that I can't be immune to fear.  In the description, I just take a -2 to saves vs fear.  it doesn't say that I can't be immune to fear.

There is another anti-feat called 'Cowardly' where the description states that the effect is that you cant be immune to fear and automatically fail any fear saves as well as some other caveats.

Before Anya has even crumpled to the ground Verconis leaps between Ares and Kerkley, his scimitar clutched in both hands. "You vile Titan spawn, you have struck down one who took no part in this battle and raised no blade against your wretched bastard." With another guttural snarl Ares drives his dripping spear into Verconis side but with less effect.  Verconis in turn slashes away but only once finds his way past Ares shield and spear. "Your bloodlust will be the undoing of what we fight for here!"

Before Ares can resume his attack there is a golden flash and with a shrieking battle cry Sif attacks with a fury bordering on berserk rage. She is far faster than Verconis, or Phobos, and seemingly just as strong, but Ares knocks most of her attacks aside. Where Phobos was brute force lacking in any nuance, Ares seems an impossible combination of grace and power. His spear leaps and recoils in ways that only a whip should be able to move. Within moments Sif and Verconis are bleeding heavily.

Yes, its only Kerkly and Parker.  Although the telepathic link is still active and work across planes, so Kerkly can give a recount...after he finishes his spell prep...and assuming he is alive.

Interesting notion. If you no longer meet the prereq's of a feat that you have taken, do you still have access to that feat? Do you lose Power Attack if your Str drops below 13 due to ability damage/drain or old age penalties? What if you have a prestige class that has Power Attack as a prerequisite?
Title: Re: Unphriendly Phobos

From the Players Handbook 3.5 page 87.

Prerequisites
A character cannot use a feat if he or she has lost the prerequisite. For example, if your characters strength drops below 13 because of a ray of enfeeblement spell, he or she can't use the Power Attack feat until the prerequisite is met again

So I think that means that he can be made immune to fear, but no longer can take advantage of the craven feat.

At the conclusion of the above post Kerley and Parker are in the same condition they were after the battle.
Parker reloads his winder, knowing it is mostly a pointless gesture, but it makes him feel better.  Parker thinks for a minute and then tosses a bunch of his exploding ammunition onto the ground in front of him.  Then he quickly moves behind Kerkly and plants the butt of his Rod of Alertness into the ground. Finally, he puts himself between Kerkly and the fight with Aries and stands in a defensive fighting stance with his Holy Bastard sword at the ready.
(The Rod casts Prayer on both of them, we get a +1 morale bonus to all rolls and any enemies tale a -1 to all rolls for the next 10 minutes. Also the ammunition Parker scattered around is affected by an Animate Object spell controlled by Parker.  Additionally, Parker will instantly get a mental alert from the Rod if anyone who intends them harm who comes within 120 feet)

When Parker steps between Ares and Kerkley, a position that is difficult to maintain as the combatants move faster than you can, he is almost over powered with feelings of rage and hatred. The holy sword seems to hum as if it would shatter if struck in the right place. If Ares sees you he gives no sign.

Moments later, with no flash, Baervan and his raccoon are beside you.  "Come my friends, this battle has little to do with you now and you need not lose your lives to this thug."

Ares snaps the spearhead down on Sif's head like a mace, leaving her staggered, and whirls on you.  "Do not touch them runt. They will serve me in Hades until I am satisfied."

Baervan makes no move, though his companion lets out a dutiful snarl, but appears unintimidated. "Your feud with Asgard has gone on so long perhaps this bloodletting was inevitable but you are not so foolish as to raise your spear against me. Already mighty Tyr knows of what you have done and when his eiheneiar have swept away the fiends your servants will be next.  Sif's husband will arrive even sooner and then you will be overmatched. Strike me down in spite and I doubt even your own pantheon will shelter you; Olympus will be besieged by all the celestial planes !

Baervan raises his spear east: "See, even now Thor comes to aid and avenge his beloved." Parker can see the most intense thunderstorm he has ever seen racing towards you.

Ares spear wavers for a moment but as Sif recovers he whirls and drives the lance into her side again. She collapses but does not expire. "I will drown all of you in her blood; make Thor watch as I make a trophy of her golden haired skull!  I will . . ." His next words are cut short by an arrow that pierces his left shoulder. He spins and ducks just in time to avoid another but a third strikes him in the hip.

Baervan's face takes on a satisfied smile. "Fool, did you think me false? You know the pact among all The Elder Children. See, the Lord of the Dawn comes. Even Zeus could not protect you. If you are lucky  Corellon will take pity on you and save you from Thor. But I doubt it."

Ares crouches behind his shield but reverses his spear and pierces Baervan once above his belt. The gnome staggers back but does not fall. Before Ares can strike again, in a blink or less, between he and Baerevan there is a tall, regal elf. His eyes are like glowing sapphires and he is arrayed in mithril armor, sword and spear; a longbow and quiver upon his back. Baervan mutters while clutching his wound, "your timing is excellent as ever my lord."

Ares's eyes narrow and for the first time his guard exceeds his attack. His spear strikes out from behind his crescent shield but Corellon knocks it aside each time. "Coward! You fear me!"

"Your deeds are not mine to avenge, but I shall see that you remain to be held to account."

Ares makes three attempts to move around Corellon to get at you but his path is blocked each time. After the last Corellon sheathes his sword and nods again to the east and Ares turns to face a massive red bearded figure. Corellon casts a rainbow barrier between the group of you and Ares and begins to tend to the wounded.

What follows is violence the likes of which neither Kerkley nor Parker could have imagined. All around, outside the barrier, the air is lit by lightning, the ground cracks and then seals, the weather changes by the moment. Where Ares steps the already trampled grass blackens and dies. When Mjolnir passes the air leaves a contrail in its wake. It only lasts a few moments and just as quickly as it began Ares is crushed to the ground, his body and head shattered and ruptured.

Thor gives a bow and salute to Corellon and lifts Sif and Verconis' wounded bodies far more gently than you would expect given what you just witnessed. He dissappears in a flash of lightning.

Corellon turns to you. Word has already been sent to your lord Avoreen, Keeper Andest. He will bring your companions to meet the celestial armies. I will send you there now unless you have other needs.

I thought we were being returned to Habololy?  Are we in a meeting with the leaders of the celestial armies or are we back on our home world?  Sorry if I missed it.  Just trying to figure out where we are at the moment while we wait to be reunited with Kerkley and Parker.

While Kerkley and Parker remain behind the others arrive in the midst of a massive encampment. Less than a mile "north" there is a proper town, far more orderly and maintained than Faunel.  The camp is also more orderly, tents are aligned in neat rows, spaced evenly apart. There is still a certain rowdiness that one expects in a military camp by the sounds of things but it is vastly different from the Olympians or Asgardians.

Your arrival causes little notice, though Möbius draws a look or two. Looking around you see heraldic standards in abundance, again far more than the camp you departed earlier. Most are foreign to you but a few are familiar: the hammer and scales of Tyr, the rampant dragon of Behamut and the white sword of Stasis (which flys a little lower than the first two).  A great tent adorned in silver and gold sits at the center of the camp, flying Tyr's banner.

Seemingly waiting for you is a massive "lizard folk" (though Möbius tells you later it is a Saurial), wearing the robes and silver gauntlet of Tyr. It has three horns, one on its nose and the the others on its forehead and a great bone halo surrounding its face. It's skin is a grey green. It is as tall as Möbius and even thicker.

"Hail Möbius of Dakon and Hail champions of Habololy, I am Sharkandrik, servant of Tyr. Food, drink and rest are prepared for you. There will be a council when Keeper Andest and Lord Verconis arrive."

Assuming one of you informs him (you're fairly sure) of the circumstances of your arrival, he turns as if to move towards the great tent but then shakes his head. "If avatars are battling speed is of the essence."  He instead uses a sending.

Prime material powers, including those of Habololy, are not highly thought of and in turn Habololy's planar reputation is that it is a second rate planet. You should revisit the end of the thread about the hunt for the Throne of Aruvatar for some insight into the planar relationships. Stasis is an ally of Tyr and Behamut (among others)

A few minutes pass and two more figures arrive. The first is a tall feather winged man dressed in a silver robe with a golden belt. He too wears a silver gauntlet and is armed with a great sword and a long bow that is fit for a giant. Beside him is a man of average height and build with golden hair that seems out of place for his age.  The winged figure speaks: "I am Amasial, servant of Tyr. This Cocyan, servant of Behamut. Ares has attacked Sif and Verconis and has sworn vengeance upon all of you for the "death" of Phobos. We are here to protect you until the danger passes or you are returned to your world."

Cocyan says: "Although he is mighty, Ares cannot send an avatar or a proxy to Habololy. He would have to weaken at least the Oldest Orc and likely Habastly and Dedestroyt as well. He can send agents, fiends and the like. Until this is resolved you will have to be on your guard. Only on the upper planes would you be safer than on Habololy."

As you draw near the great tent you see Baerevan (and his companion), Parker and Kerkley appear. There is no flash, they are simply there when they previously were not.  Beside them, near the entrance to the tent, are twelve halflings, all armed with short swords and admantium chain mail. The tallest of the group Ari recognizes as Avoreen. He has none of the cheerful, celebratory look about him that you saw at Stasis' castle.  His troop are all watchful and relax only slightly when they see all of you and your companions.

Avoreen goes to Baerevan. "My friend, you are wounded!" The gnome waves him off, "Lord Corellon has seen to it as best he can. A glass or three of Asgard's best mead will see me right."  Avoreen's face reddens. "That cur, to strike at one of the powers of the Elder Children over the defeat of his wretch of a son; who was clearly at fault."

"Phobos has never been accounted among the brightest but this foolishness is a new low. For him or any of the Olympians."

Avoreen turns to all of you: "My friends, tents have been summoned for all of you. If you are not completely safe already you will be when the new day dawns. For now these are matters that must be discussed among the powers."

Avoreen looks you over as if evaluating a new sword. "That is a fair question, though I am used to being taken at my word.  My presence coupled with Amasial and Cocyan should be enough to drive off all but the mightiest of avatars. I doubt Ares is anxious to risk the loss of another so soon. We will send word to the Guardians, if it has not been sent already. As for the dawn, well, there will be a council of powers far mightier than I. Then even Zeus himself wouldn't dare come here uninvited.  Rest easy this night."

Parker collapses to the ground where he appears.  He waves off any offers of help or assistance.  He doesn't talk, but makes it clear he wishes to be left alone.  After several hours of sitting, he finally shakes his head as if coming out of a mental fog, rises, and finds the tent that has been set aside for him.  He gets himself cleaned up and then goes to find Benlin and/or Kerkly or any spellcaster he recognizes from the Guardians.  He will bug, bribe, or cajole as needed to get someone to let him copy the 'Sending' spell into his spellbook.

Parker does not see any of the Guardians this night and only your companions are familiar to you.

You find your tents with the aid of the keepers. Each houses an extra dimensional space roughly four times the outside footprint of the tent. Inside they are comfortable but not lavish with stands for armor, whetstones and oil for your weapons, clean water and strong soap. A meal of cold chicken, cheese, bread and mead awaits you as well. The beds are firm, canvas stretched over a wood frame. Outside it is much colder than it was near Faunel but the tents remain comfortable.

Sh'aar falls asleep quickly, this bed being more comfortable then what traditional guards-persons get to sleep on.  However, trusting no-one she has her glaive under her pillow. ( under pillow pocket dimension)

When you awake, or are awakened in a few cases, you find a clear, cold day awaits you.  More remarkably, where the great pavilion tent once stood on flat ground, a great mound has risen beneath it. The mound appears as if it has been there for years untold; it is covered in lush grass and crests nearly three hundred feet and appears to be a perfect hemisphere. There are four archways, each seventy feet high, made of seven stones with a key stone embossed with the rampant platinum dragon.

The pavilion itself has changed as well. Tyr's banner no longer flies atop it alone. The banners of Moradin, Yondalla, Garl, Corellon and Behamut now flank the entryway, three to a side.

Sensing impending zaniness, Ari tries to get a good breakfast in before the day's chaos commences.

Ari's quest for a hearty breakfast is easily completed. Upon exiting the tents you find the Keepers right where you left them. Before the arch closest to all of you Avoreen is speaking with Cocyan and the familiar figure of Aezir, the couatl.

Avoreen says: "Greetings my friends, since you have three of my kindred among your ranks we have prepared an extra large morning meal. As you can guess from the banners, during the night the avatars of the heads of the elder pantheons have arrived. They are discussing yesterday's events and waiting for word from Jaziran who has agreed to serve as emissary.  In the meantime let us share a meal. I would hear of the battle at Castle Gemblade and any other good tales you have to tell."

For the first time since before the Falan debacle, Ari is chipper and upbeat this morning, pleasantly chatting with Avoreen, Aezir, and Cocyan as he has breakfast; he has apparently finally snapped out of the funk he's been in recently.

He gives Sh'Aar a cheerful smile: "Never pass up a good meal Lady Knight. Never know when it will be your last."

The mess tent is actually comforting to Sha'ar, Kerkley and Thaddeus. It is a quintessential military mess except that the soldiers are comprised of more than a dozen races. There is a great head table draped with Tyr's banner, but it is unoccupied. Avoreen and your troupe take up one of the tables and draw little notice from most of the assembled. Ari and Kerkley realize that the majority of the soldiers are petitioners; einheriar in the service of a power. The rest, likely the officers and sergeants, are mortals, both prime and planars, with a few celestials mixed in among them.

Cocyan and Aezir discuss news of the Celestial Mount, which is boring, and occasionally lapse into draconic for brief periods.

Avoreen listens to the tale of the siege of Castle Gemblade with great interest. Do you discuss the events surrounding Falan etc.?

"Excuse me, I meant Former Lord Governer Arishimonoto"

Avoreen listens intently to your story.

"That is most worrisome. I know little of Falan except from a few stories Stasis and Mouser have related over the years. I have little doubt that Obelisk will cause you trouble in time.  Many centuries ago my brother Brandobaris faced a similar dilemma. He unwillingly became the power of greed among our people. Though we are less prone to greed than the other elder children, gluttony is our curse, sometimes our love of beautiful things and curiosity can change to greed over time.  Brandobaris was unaware he had inherited the trait until it became difficult for him to visit the Green Meadow. When Yondalla discerned what was happening she trapped him on the Mount for an entire year. Much like what befell Stasis, during that time his clerics were weakened and many of his followers were persecuted. To this day we keep a careful eye on him and in truth he visits less often than he did before.  I don't have the gift of foresight, except perhaps in a duel, but I suspect Falan will ultimately fade and pass. The rest of his aspects don't seem strong enough to me to sustain a single sphere power."

Hearing no further comments . . .

After breakfast the bulk of the army departs. The mound and tent remain. Avoreen departs but the Keepers and the other celestial servants remain. You cannot make out the words but you are sure you hear raised voices from within the tent.

A little over an hour passes and your company grows restless. A group of figures emerges from the tent, several of which most of you recognize. Midan of the Guardians and Buld Mountainmagic of the church of Stasis, Maglore Ovet (who looks less weary here on the outer planes), Verconis (who bears several scars from Ares' spear) and a woman of indeterminate race bearing Stasis' symbol.

Verconis says to you "My friends, I am sorry your journey here was fraught with betrayal. I wish you well. Perhaps our paths will cross again."

Maglore says "We will return to the Temple.  Before we depart may I present to you Lady Arbyia, Stasis' champion here among the outer planes."

Kerkley is sure she is an Aasimar but otherwise she reminds you immediately of Shaar. She resembles an elf but has vaguely opalescent skin, short jet black hair and nearly colorless blue eyes. She wears a breast plate and (as you would expect) is armed with a bastard sword.  She exchanges greetings with all of you and departs with Buld.

Maglore opens a gate to Elysium and by the end of the day you return to the Vale.

Rubius returns to Emelda, Rubian, and Ruby.

"My dear friends, it's been far too long since I've laid eyes on my beautiful family.  I'll take my leave unless anyone needs me imminently.  Please stop by when you have a chance and I'll prepare you all a meal."

Before you depart Escalon asks you to listen to what Maglore has to tell of the meeting of the powers. All of the Council of Ten, except Tania and Acure, are present as well as many of their seconds. Also present are Nisoru, Buld and Michael from the Church of Stasis, the high clerics of Tyrogatore, Tfop, Arsur'anyodel and Hemator for Icefia.

Maglore says: "No mortals attended the meeting of the powers. They met during the night in Behamut's lair. The events were related to me by Aezir.

All the heads of the Elder pantheons were present with Behamut standing for the Saurials, for their lord is believed to be imprisoned by the calamity on Dakon just like the dark one. Jazirian, who is respected by all agreed to serve as a neutral party, though his friendship with the Elder children and powers of the Mount is known by all.

For the humans Tyr and Oghma stood and Stasis attended as his possession of the Throne seemed to play some part in this controversy.

Athena, who has been a friend to Stasis and a student of Jazirian was invited to attend on behalf of the Olympians. She came but Zeus and Deimos, the other son of Ares, arrived as well. They claimed to speak on behalf of not only Olympus but the Beastlands as well. They bore a sigil of Stronmus in support of their claim.

In short Zeus demanded that all of you who took part in the battle against Phobos be handed over for one hundred years of slavery to Ares, that the Asgardians pay a heavy recompense for Ares and Phobos and that Stasis hand over the Throne of Aruvatar to Athena.

Needless to say his demands were not well received. All attempts to reason with him, and admittedly between Tyr and Moradin much of the reason had to be filtered out of streams of invective, failed. To make matters worse Deimos continually interrupted with insults and threats to the point that Jazirian expelled him from the lair. When he attempted to renter Jazirian dismissed him back to the Grey Wastes, which enraged Zeus even further.

The end result is this. There is now a true war in the upper planes. Zeus and Stronmus have allied against Asgard and have pledged to invade Ysgard when the Beastlands are secure. Zeus threatened all of the elder children with war across the planes. All of the elder children are unified against them and Corellon has already warned Zeus that the Seldarine will close the paths to Olympus in Arborea.
Tyr wants to expel Athena from the Mount but Jazirian is attempting to salvage some place for her. She could easily perish, or at least diminish in rank if forced to flee to Olympus.

Most of this means little for us here on Habololy, except that Stronmus has vowed to slay Tyrogatore and Zeus has pledged to aid him. There is a high bounty on his clerics and champions now throughout the planes.

Jazirian and Garl Glittergold believe that Maab, the unseelie queen, has manipulated all of this. She saw the weakening of the Beastlands and insinuated the idea of the assault in the minds of the Lords of the Nine. She clearly tried to have you kidnapped before your meeting with the Daghda. She likely manipulated Phobos with the idea that the Throne should have gone to Athena.

For all of you, turning to Ari, Kerkley, Parker and Rubius, there will likely be attempts to kidnap you here on Habololy but what form it will take we do not know. The Olympians have no presence here and Stronmus seems fixated on Tyrogatore. Given your roles as champions of the light you are always in some degree of danger. What you must guard against now is that it may not be servants of evil that strike at you."

Thus far we have not heard your names. It may be that because Thaydius was unconscious during the battle with Phobos and the rest of you did not take part in bringing the Throne to Stasis that you are not concerning to them. Or they may not know your names yet. Kerkley and Möbius have been legends for five centuries. Ari and Parker have gained considerable fame for finding the Throne.

Marius realm remains, the Fey war rages in the Great Forest, Usicis and Iscen remain at large, as do the last five Tanari, the Kingdom seems likely to join the Republic in battle against the pirates, the King Taker and Tyrant Maker have not been seen in some time . . .
