The New Magic Domain
« on: February 29, 2012, 01:46:39 PM »
Granted Power is the same.  However, I think the spell list can be mightily improved.  Here is my first pass as it:

1st - Identify
2nd - Magic Savant (Complete Mage)
3rd - Anyspell (Forgotten Realms)
4th - Imbue with Spell Ability
5th - Magic Convalescence (PHB2)
6th - Greater Anyspell
7th - Spell Turning
8th - Protection from Spells
9th - Invoke Magic (LoM)

This draws a few from the Realm Spell Domain.

Thoughts?

UMD is trained only and not a class skill for clerics, so #2 is not useful.

Anyspells were updated in SpC. Not sure how they are different from the FR version, but I like them as an addition to this domain.

#5 was a good add.

I would keep Disjunction as the #9 spell. I envision it as the cleric possessing a deep understanding of how magic functions, which enables them to break it apart. Invoke Magic, while neat, is very situational.

Same as the PHB:

Use scrolls, wands, and other devices with spell completion or spell trigger activation as a wizard of one-half your cleric level (at least 1st level). For the purpose of using a scroll or other magic device, if you are also a wizard, actual wizard levels and these effective wizard levels stack.

I think its useful.  Clerics don't get the Use Magic Device skill, so it is something they otherwise would have no hope of doing.  The ability to use arcane scrolls and wands without chance of failure is strong.

Granted it is less so if you are a cleric / wizard.
