Title: Discontinued Domains
Post by: Asinjin on February 15, 2012, 10:35:42 AM
The following are domains that we currently use that I want to get rid of; let me know if there is a problem with getting rid of any of these:

Charm
Rune
Scalykind

To make the domains better align with the Devotee class, I am considering doing away with the alignment domains.  Law, Chaos, Good, Evil.  Thoughts?

Please post your clerics domains, so I don't discontinue a vital domain for your existing cleric.

Why aren't there devotees of the alignments?

I didn't like the idea of a character devoted to Good, Evil, Chaos, or Law.  They were too broad of a concept, and also, it took away from the basic paladins.

Haas: Strength
Koth: Liberation, Strength

I don't think Gnarion is going to have Strength.  Current new ones are: Liberation, Ice, and Protection.  However, I give Hero the chance to convince me they should be different.

My primary argument is that getting rid of the strength domain from Gnarion's portfolio would de-Koth Koth. No enlarge. Damage output reduced to that of mortal men. History would be undone. The Bane would still rule Palumbton, ettins would strut around with both heads intact. We can't have that.

Okay then, we drop Protection.  You need to look at which of the many ice domains fits Frostine / Gnarion the best.  Ice, Cold, Winter, etc.

Admittedly, protection does make more sense though.

Well, we can grandfather Koth in and make it Protection going forward.

That works.

You getting rid of scalykind from Tyrogatore? Isn't that kind of a big part of his portfolio?

He was the only one who got it, and I didn't like the racial ones.  However, upon further review, Greenfellow would have it too.  Thoughts?

Already stated to DM but for everyone else's benefit, I think there should be a few that are unique such as scalykind and Music (Allanda).

I am going to reverse my Skalykind finding, and apply it to Tyrogatore and Greenfellow.

Solaris had good, glory and healing.   You took care of the good issue that we discussed by creating the redemption domain.

Nathan had Water and Storm.  I like the idea of storm because it combines water and air.

Rin also has Good, and Animal

I agree with removing Good, Evil and Chaos and law with a caveat. As the number of domains increase you get domains that are really aspects or subdivisions of the big overarching ones.

I think there needs to be a domain for "The Law", devotion to the actual recorded laws themselves vs lawful as a concept. Hansui, gruweas and Everventual all have this devotion as an aspect of their personas and associated prestige classes (inquisitor, law caller , judge).

Right now, there is judgement being used for the purpose of The Law.  If you think we can make two that are different enough, than we can split them.

Right now the domain count is at 46, I want to put a hard cap of 50.  That number is well below the list we had previously used.

I wouldn't cap it.  I would just make sure the domains are properly set for each deity.  I wouldn't worry about how many overall domains we have.  You already are taking care of that by not having domains that will only be used by one deity.  No need to cap that further.

I agree

Will the Order of the Banished Hero still keep access to the Good domain, or will you change that?

Oh....the unforeseen effects...what are your thoughts?
Title: Re: Discontinued Domains

I say keep it. It's a core ability, we don't have to create anything new and if you want it can be available for use with the Alternate Domain feat.

What is the issue with order of the banished hero and the good domain?
Title: Re: Discontinued Domains
Post by: Asinjin on March 02, 2012, 08:17:27 AM
The issue is we eliminated the Good domain.

I think since we just used the domain as a collection of spells, it is not an issue.  I could just as easily give them the ability to cast a unique spell at each level.  This may even give Hero the chance to adjust the spell list if he thinks its necessary.

I guess I need to look up the class to understand.  I will check it and see if I can help.

or why don't you just use the Redemption Domain which replaced the Good domain?

I think the good domain access should stay as it is for the OoBH. It just grants access to the first 5 spells, which I don't think need to change.

There is another OoBH out there to render an opinion, Valids?

Valdis has an OotBH?

The power will stay the same, we will just change the wording to give them the specific spells as opposed to Good domain.

I thought Saren was based on his attitude and backstory, but what do I know.

Saren is not of the OoBH
