Title: The Worst Laid Plans
Post by: whitesword on November 10, 2011, 12:29:18 AM
Feel free to discuss with Ari and Grimdrek and then when finished discuss your plans for the cook.

After making sure all of the constables are stable, Rob goes to the dwarves to try and help them.  If the leaders get together to discuss what happened, I listen in on the discussion.

There seems to be a vacuum of leadership among the constables.  They are clearly out of their depth.

Seeing that, I approach Grimdrek when it appears as if he has a moment.

"Sir, if I could have a moment to speak with you.  I am constable Axson, currently assigned to Port Phiam."

Grimdrek is clearly annoyed with his dwarves.  "Aack! Young Robert who eschews both magic and weapons!! What a pleasant surprise and you brought an army with you!  (looking at his dwarves)Perhaps next time I'll bring a few beardless human younglings instead of my elite hearth guard!"  You get a number of displeased looks.

In a hushed voice, "I am pleased you remember me sir.  Drunnbar bless us.  I must take no credit for the assembled constables.  I did not convince them to come nor lead them here.   But we did come, and we did fight.  Now we are in need of your help.  The sergeant are in over their heads, I fear.  Can you talk and inspire them, and possible give them suggestions on what to do next?"

Grimdrek does not appear to have a hushable voice. "Ah, boyo the Icefians have shown no love for the wisdom of my lord and I doubt they'll listen to me but maybe (his voice growing louder) they'll follow the beaver and his friend over there!"

Do I have any idea who the badger allied Horarian is?

Where are we exactly? Are there dwellings here or is this just an open cavern?

Bryvis makes a know(religion) check on the loomashyn symbol with the black iris...14+6=20.

Ari hustles over to the constables once the remaining wug are dispatched.  "Good constables of Phiam, you have earned Tfop's favor this day driving off a such an overwhelming force. Who is in command?" As Ari walks among the constables heading towards Grimdrek, he uses his sacred healing feat to give everyone within 60' burst fast healing 3 for 8 rounds, doing this multiple times as necessary to cover everyone.

There are no dwellings but signs of a camp.

No idea on the symbol

Grimdrek says "hello lord arishimoto, a pleasure to see you again. Do you perhaps have a potion that can make the wug reappear so we don't have to chase them? No, I didn't think so. At least maybe they will leave Foothold and it's mines alone for now. "

When the time is appropriate, I ask Grimdrek, "Sir, what brought you here at this time?"  If the opportunity arises, I ask Arisimoto as well.

Grimdrek replies: "Thigole and his rabble have begun moving deeper underground to survive the cold. They also appear to be fleeing some enemy. Their scouts came into our mines and killed and ate a few of our miners. My scouts (raising his voice again) didn't quite grasp the size of the hoard. Our mines don't connect to the underdark so we will seal this cavern and be done with them. "

Is it clear from his speaking who Thigole is?

"The wugs came from the Underdark?"

Is it?

Grimdrek replies "are ye hard of hearing? I said the winter drove them underground. The city's dulling your wits boyo."

Grimdrek and his guards go to leave.  As he follows them into the tunnel he turns and says : "Lord Arishimoto, did you see the eye?"

"Master Grimdrek, are you going to attack them again, after you have rested?"

To a sergeant, "Are we going to come out here again, and drive them farther?"

I assume at least one wug was captured alive for questioning.

To Grimdrek, "Have you had any run ins with Chosen recently?"

Are the wug being taken back for questioning, or will it be done here?

Does it appear as if Arisimoto will be returning with us?

I posted this earlier but it didn't take.

In order "No we will seal them in and let the underdark take care of them. "

"I have no orders but it seems unlikely. Even the army doesn't venture into the underdark unnecessarily."

Yes a few.

To Grimdrek, "What have your chosen encounter been like?"

The constables are already packing them away.

Grimdrek says" I have never seen a chosen."

Uleric works his healing among the constables and dwarves. Upon hearing that they plan on sealing the tunnels to the underdark, Uleric asks the sargent if they should do the same to the tunnels that lead to the undead.

Does Grimdrek know of the undead?  If he hasn't indicated through conversation that he does, then I ask, "Honored Grimdrek, what do you make of their appearance?"

Before Tuesday you should discuss your plan for the cook.
Once the decisions about the wug and their undead have been made, Uleric will gather the others in the group and discuss their next move in regards to the Cook.
"I say we bring him for questioning. It has been a few days since we originally questioned him, and he has undoubtedly been stewing over the question of whether or not we'll be back to question him more.

Word would have spread through Phiam about the constables being tasked with finding the chosen and wugs. The Cook will probably expect word to reach him that we have all been recalled before he starts to wory about us coming to see him again. We should request to be able to leave ahead of the others to continue our investigation."

The Sergeant says: thats a job for an engineer brigade.  The 5th Helions are based near Messada.  We will send word to them.

Grimdrek has not mentioned undead.  He is fastidiously wiping the wug off his sword and armor. (on a humorous note his lion looks miserable, torn between licking off the slime and going under one of the small waterfalls.  It is clearly a magical beast and an unhappy one at that.  The badger has no such problem- it is rolling around under the waterfall, scrubbing its back and paws on the rock.  Possibly taunting the lion.)

"Perhaps, we can borrow the gem and plant it on the cook so that Vassilli can watch him."
The sergeant shakes his head: "It doesn't work that way.  It has to be worn and activated; and I have to return it anyway."

Ari to Grimdrek: "Just Ari will do, Master Grimdrek...Sir Arishimoto if you feel the need for formality. I did see the eye symbol on the cleric, but I do not recognize it...is it some type of Loomashyn subgroup?"

Turning to Rob: "You are the commander of your squad, I presume? I am Arishimoto Udanaru, Feyalin of Tfop and Knight of the Order of the Banished Hero. Astrek (gesturing to the badger) and I are here at the request of your chief deputy, who was concerned about what you and your men were about to walk into. We arrived magically, a little off our mark apparently as we arrived in the midst of this."

"No sir, I am not the leader.  I do not know your order, although I have heard them mentioned.  It is good to meet you.  I am glad you were here, and your Astrek as well."  Assuming that Grimdrek is still within earshot, "Magic tends to make mistakes when relied on for such important matters."

Bryvis chimes in, who had creeped up within earshot of the conversation: "Do you suppose a sealed tunnel will contain them? They managed to tunnel through solid rock into Phiam. And I doubt there are many dangers of the Underdark that would tangle with 200+ wug."

Perhaps that is true, but without it we would have arrived here a few days from now, too late to provide aid. Who is in command of your squad?

As Ari and Astrek follow the dwarves in to the tunnel the remaining sergeants look at each other and almost as one say :"We are leaving."  The constables begin the long march back to Phiam.  In the echoes you can hear "Aack! Keep that blasted beaver away from me mount!"
