Out Into the World / Re: The 'Ole Pig Turns to Scrapple
« on: February 16, 2024, 08:23:57 AM »
I assure you we've broken no laws.  I'm not talking about in a place like Borkondorf - where the is only one law. But laws in a more civilized place like this.
Well, maybe it was the Scrapple... that was good enough to be sinful
Why?
Jesse briefly closes his eyes and a few seconds later replies, "Charges of assault, disturbing the peace, bribery, and illegal use of magic among others.  Look, the Merchant Lords run this city.  They have, or can get to, just about everyone.  Their coffers are deep enough to bend the morality of even the staunchest magistrate.  Sure, most of the charges are made up, although the assault and bribery are probably closer to the truth than anything else. The point is, if you had anything left in the city that you wanted to take care of, you can't.  Had we continued along the path, to find your guide, we would have run into a blockade.  I think we need to be more careful from here on out."

Jesse gets a far away look in his eyes for a few seconds then begins to quietly curse under his breath.  To the group he says quietly "I've just been contacted by Burke.  He has informed me that the Merchant Lords are seeking your...well our, arrest."

Name game time....5 xp for each new NPC you can correctly name and identify from this season.

Jesse is looking a little more anxious.

"He still hasn't done anything other than maybe watch and follow us.  Who wouldn't with this sideshow-like menagerie of a group.   This may not go well for us if the authorities get involved."

Parker sits down at the table.

"Ooof.  Those were some magical muscles I haven't stretched in a while.  Pretty sure I pulled something.  I agree with Master Blackbattle.  We need to remove those stones from Ishbins gullet.  Fortunately, I know a few people who would be glad to do it the hard way if necessary."

For Parker and Asinjin, there is no doubt where you are- the Hive of Sigil.
"Well that makes sense.  If you want to get something to anywhere else in the planes, this is where you'd go."

The giant looks confused when Asinjin changes into the fiend, but when Vega makes his pronouncement, it gives a broken tooth grin and licks its lips.

“You wee gits are just some sort of misguided do-gooderz.  You ain’t got my kit and you ain’t no factoums of the Shackle King.  Leave me the halflings and a dwarf or two and go on your way.”
Parker gets a wistful smile on his face.  "Oh, my large and stupid friend.  I don't think you quite comprehend the enormity of your situation.  We have had a long enough day and, despite your gaggle of lackeys, you are woefully outmatched.  I suggest you think long and hard before you make a monumentally bad decision."

Shaar calmly runs some practice forms.

I leave the planning to those smarter them myself.  I do not have a silver or holy weapon if it comes down to that.  Also, we are in "hell" she quotes cause she knows that isn't not technically true.  I would prefer not to fight the whole of hell to survive.  However, I do understand that is a possibility.
Don't worry too much Shaar.  Either Asinjin or I can make you a force to be reckoned with.  At least for a short time

Parker will ask the Guardinals, "For those of us not accustomed to fighting 'Devils' and various 'Loths', what are some of their weaknesses we can try to exploit?"

All I'm saying is that it wouldn't hurt to be prepared.  Having one of those would certainly come in handy in case we need it.  If nothing else, we could set it off in the slave driver's keep to cause a distraction while we extract Daane and Dovan.

There are plenty of other less volatile distractions we can employ

Being a worshipper of Tfop and a historian of sorts, I ask the Cleric if he knows anyone among the faithful who can make us a holy hand grenade similar to the one used by Claude to defeat Kalark.

Parker chimes in, "As tempting as that sounds, that is more of a 'last resort-we're all going to die anyway' kind of solution.  I, for one, would like to continue to watch my children grow up, and get them out of whatever world ending shenanigans they get up to in the future.  So I'm going to vote 'No' on the 'let's build something that was designed to take out a god' plan.  I think this needs to be more of a 'Get in, Get out, Get on with life' kind of situation.  We hit the Caravan, get Daane, and get out as quickly as possible, snagging Dovan if the opportunity presents itself.  Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and pray we land somewhere in the middle."
