There is one point early the second day, where a loud argument breaks out between Mortimur and the cleric of Hemator Mathis. Mathis wants an immediate trial and summary execution for the gnolls acts. "There is no doubt that they killed blessed Rhea! The punishment must be swift and unwavering! Hemator condemns those action without question!"
Mortimur responds, and his deep voice dominates the halflings, "No, no, no. A trial must take place. The letter of the law cleric. We are civilized, we have standards. I will not sanction such an execution until those are met." His tone is unmistakably tinted with sarcasm and for those smart enough the reversed argument between the two and what would normally be expected is odd.
To Mathis chagrin, the fort cleric of Habastly contributes after a few minutes. "I have to agree, and am thankful to be able to do so, with Mortimur. They are safely held and there will be a trial. If the facts are what they say, it will not take long once a judge has arrived."
Arguments continue and finally, Commander Whitstone, the half cloak wearing halfling arrives. "Everyone will stand down. Cleric, return to your study. Mortimur, thank you for your help, but if your mission here is complete, it is time for you to move on to the next town."
Mortimur leaves later that day.
