The real title of this thread is “Wolves, Wugs and . . .?â€
No one has gone into the warehouse.

I'll ask the sergeant for permission to enter the warehouse. If granted, I head in and announce our presence as constables. I state that we're there for an investigation and that any and all people in the building must remain there for questioning. I do not draw a weapon unless needed.
-
Know(law) check =21. Any issues forcing our way into a sealed customs building where a homicide occurred on the roof?

As long as you hold the scene it won’t be an issue.

Okay, so does anyone have a way to open the door?
Are there any NPCs here that we could send back to the station to report this? Like the kennel master?

He says he will go back and to HQ by way of the local station.

Can anyone pick locks?
Uleric says, "No, I can't pick a lock. But, I can cast a Spiritual Weapon and use it to knock politely until the door gives way"
-
Has anyone tried to enter? The door may not even be locked.

Robert looks to the sergeant for who he would like to try the door.

If I recall correctly, when we knocked we noted the door has a customs seal. I assumed that meant locked. On the off chance it doesn’t, Bryvis will try the door.
Failing that, is there a gap under the door or a chimney that I could get through via gaseous form?

The door is locked with a stout chain and lock. You can easily enter in gaseous form though.

Let's rattle the chain and the door and see if someone tries to flee out the back.

No. The main door has a cutout door and there is a fire escape

Okay. Vasilli, mind the fire escape for any runners. I'll hit the chain with a lesser orb of sound (3d6 sonic damage, bypasses hardness). That should be an adequate substitute for a key or a knock spell.
-
Side conversation: Remember when we were in Portet and we detained and questioned a foppish human that turned out to be a gensai prince from the Plane of Water that was coming ashore looking for female companionship? He told us of the sea wolves that were hunting him and his men. The presence of one of those creatures here in Phiam can't be a coincidence.

Robert nods, "That's why you're the sergeant."

Within the globe of light you see a variety of crates. They are sectioned off with simple rope barriers to keep them from being mixed. The floor is only about half full.

Near the center of the room you find two crates that have been opened. They are the only ones that appear disturbed. They are filled with books.

Forced open, or normally?
Any writing on the box on the books that I can read without touching? (Common, Elven, Dwarven)

Pryed open but not with a bar. Something more round. The bill of lading is in elven. The crates contain a purchase of books from Portet. The purchaser is M. Anolian. Feel free to make a local knowledge check.

We should secure the building while Robert investigates the crate.
Uleric, stay with Robert to watch his back.
Gneetagh and Wake, with me.
We sweep the remainder of the warehouse, starting at the far end of the building and working our way around the perimeter clockwise. Bryvis casts dancing lights and sends them off into the darkness ahead of us as a spotlight.

You do not find anything else remarkable about the warehouse.
The books all appear to be very old. They are a mix of subjects.

Is there a listing of the books or number of them so we can determine if any are missing?
Any idea how long they have been here?

The bill lists 24 books and there are 22 in the box. The crate arrived yesterday on a ship called the Sun Chaser.

Robert doesn't know a ton of history, so unless those relate to the law or the Messada / Port Phiam area, I don't know anything but the obvious.
The books are thrown about, so is it safe to assume that whoever went through these was looking for those? Or could they just happen to have been on top? Are any of the books obviously valuable from a material standpoint? Gold laden, etc?

If someone was really jazzed about getting these book, I will probably be able to read the psychic impression. If.. the books were taken while here.

The books are individually wrapped and labeled so there’s no way to see if any of them are bejeweled etc. The rest of the crate doesn’t look rifled through.
