Title: Not A Slugwugataur!
Post by: Asinjin on September 22, 2020, 08:49:36 AM
Robert is badly in need of healing, warmth, cure disease...every type of care.

Do we have the opportunity to leave with the wug I knocked out?

Can I have a recap for the last 5 minutes?  Thanks.

Robert was finally able to pin the Bloated, after nearly being killed by it.  The soldiers ordered us leave once the prisoners were in a safe position.  Robert called they he may be able to defeat it now that it was pinned.  Gneetah and Brevis attacked.  The Slugwugataur, sensing its defeat, turned into an ooze which could not be grappled.  Seeing that, we withdrew with the freed prisoners and the soldiers.

When we arrived back on the surface, there was a small contingent of people waiting for us, including the mayor. He demanded to know what was going on. That’s where we stopped.

We still have the 2 prisoners (1 wolf and 1 wug) from the surface encounter, correct?

Correct and you can drag the pummeled wug along if you want. Within minutes of exiting the small tunnel there is a terrible smell and the tunnel collapses like a sink hole. You can clearly see it’s path and it doesn’t look like it would be too much effort to excavate back into the cave.

"Here Robert, take these."

Gneetagh hands Robert 3 healing potions.  They all do 1d8+4, so 3d8+12 total.

Bryvis sheathes his seldom used kovan blade, flicks some muck off of Falan’s wheel of swords that’s emblazoned on his shield, and slings it over his shoulder.

He looks to be in surprisingly good shape despite the brutal axe chop he took to the chest. He picks at the tear in his shirt where the axe struck and gently dabs a few drops of blood from the scratch there.

“Mr Mayor, I am Sergeant Bryvis Elswind. My squad and I were tracking down leads in an abduction case, perpetrated by a sea wolf and a wug. We followed their trail into the sewer, which lead us to the docks. One of these creatures attacked us there. We killed it and chased down 2 others up the coast to here, where we encountered a group of wugs and sea wolves emerging from the water. We captured 2, defeated others, and some fled back into the sea, we surmised to a nearby cave. Fearing the lives of any captives they held would be in jeopardy, we acted quickly. Together with the marines, we located an underwater entrance and a land-based backdoor. We split the group and entered from both sides. We discovers a small cave network and encountered about 2 dozen wugs, at least one sea wolf, and an aberration that looked like wug-slug hybrid the size of a horse - we suspect it is a Bloated. Some of us engaged in combat while other located and freed the captives - quite more than we were expecting. We were able to defeat a good portion of the wugs, but the slug horror Bloated was more than we were prepared for. Once the captives were free, we retreated. The Bloated, the wolf, and some wugs remain at large.”

The mayor is a wiry man of average height, in his late forties, dressed in a chain shirt and armed with a long sword and short sword. He has a military bearing but more at ease than the marines.

“Thank you for that concise report sergeant. I thought the Sledgehammer dwarves had put an end to these wretches years ago. And so close to the walls.”

He turns to one of the younger marines. “Go back to the castle and send word by rider or spell to the temples of Stasis and Gnarion. Tell them we are in need of warriors and healers.” To another he says “go and tell the captain of the Herron I am requesting that he move the frigate out and cover the coast here with her artillery.”

Turning back to you: “Sergeant you and your men have done excellent work. Take the rescued captives and your prisoner back to the castle. If you learn anything of value from them send word to us.”

How many captives did we free?

“If the marines are unaware of the issues please fill them in.”

There were nine captives. Five Horarian men of varying ages. Two Icefian teens. One Intorian and the Scaled Elf (your quarry).

It's up to the sergeant, but I agree with the others.  We should take the rescued prisoners to the castle then return to the precinct to file our report and rest.

Bryvis gives the marines a run down of our combat experience with the Bloated. Then we leave.

That’s why we are taking them back to the castle.

Shortly after you arrive at the castle Udarin also arrives. He is accompanied by the cleric of Stasis, Thelis Cinas, and the cleric of Han-Sui, Cantrav Windbourne. Thelis is a stern and imposing half-scaled elf. He is dressed in a chainmail hauberk with his bastard sword on his belt. Cantrav is an older human man. Some of his physical prowess has clearly left him but at the time of your first tour in Phiam he had a reputation as the most accomplished person in the city other than Thamolly Pratt. He is dressed in half plate and armed with a long sword. He is also the father of your former sergeant.

Udarin takes a brief report from you and asks Cantrav to examine you for any sign of lycanthropy or other disease you might have contracted from the Bloated. After you are given a clean bill of health the clerics depart.

Udarin says: “Well done. This sort of work is best left for the military or the Knights. Learn what you can from your prisoners.”

As he is speaking a gnome, dressed similarly to a sailor, armed with rapier and dagger, rushes through the room with a small group behind him. He calls out “Hello constables, fine work.” as he continues through.

Okay, we wave him over and listen to what he has to say.

Hearing you trying to get his attention, and aided by his very low center or gravity, he spins around and returns to you. Going down the line, he shakes each of you hands (“Good job old boy . . . Well done I say) until he gets to Gneetaugh who he gives a masculine hug and clap on the back. Gneetaugh is about twice his size.

“Nasty business this. Not the sort of thing I’m accustomed to seeing in Icefia. How can I be of assistance to the Royal Icefian Constabulary before answering the Lord Mayor’s call for aid?”

I formally introduce myself and politely ask who he is.  "I don't mean to keep you from your duties, but it appeared you may have been gesturing towards us.  If that's not the case, I apologize.  We need to have the military conduct an interrogation of these criminals, then we need to get back to headquarters per Sergeant's orders."

The cleric looks crestfallen. “I am Rasimin Fallwaters, cleric of the Temple of the Vigilant Liberators, disciple of Raygen of Magenthia and Daane of Port Springs.”

Udarin looks on in amusement.

(As an aside, Udarin has ordered you to do the interrogation not the military).

Ah, Lord Fallwaters, well met.  Would you or your fellow clerics be able to provide some truth telling magic before we begin our interrogation?  If not, no worries, but we must be off.  I nod to Udarin and look at Bryvis for permission to begin the interrogation.

Ideally you should do the interrogation on the boards as we only have 2 sessions left with our friends the constables.

I'm just the muscle.  I was hoping Bryvis would jump in here and take over the questioning.  I will, however, find us a suitable area within the castle to conduct the interrogation.

Let’s interview the liberated captives first. Individually so we can compare stories.

We should collect names, where they come from, how and when they were captured, what happened while they were being held, did they learn anything about their captor’s plans/identities/numbers?

We ask each of them individually to following:
  • Their names
  • where they come from
  • how and when they were captured
  • what happened while they were being held
  • did they learn anything about their captor’s plans/identities/numbers

The horarians are all deck hands working one voyage at a time. They were all captured in the last ten days while walking the docks at night looking for warmth/food/shelter. The two Icefian teens are urchins, selling food and working as runners on the docks. They were both taken while coming back to the docks after a run. Likewise they were taken in the last week.

During that time they tell you about half a dozen others were removed from the dungeon and did not return. They heard chanting but no screams. They admit they can’t tell the wugs apart but you get a consensus that at various points there were far more wugs than those you found. 100 or more.

The Intorian was only taken two days ago. He is a bosun on a merchant ship. He was arrested two weeks ago for assaulting a woman (prostitute you learn). His ship left him as he was arrested the night before they were due to set sail and they will return on the way back from Portet. He is clearly the most experienced of the group and is grateful for being saved from a terrible fate.

He tells you that the chieftain and the Bloated at one point were summoned away and left one of the sea wolves in charge. They returned and found the Scaled Eleven girl had been brought in. They appeared very displeased at the wugs who brought her in.

The girl is not helpful. She is clearly traumatized and out of her depth.

Its the martial Feyalin, not the paladin one.

It required taking the Vesatile feat and taking two cross class skills even with that, and two learned feats.
