In the basic 5th edition rules, psionics are essentially magic. There are no separate psionic abilities, classes, items, etc. A creature, such as a mind flayer, uses psionics to perform an existing magic spell.
We will use this for the playtest.
All of the characters are at least vaguely aware that some power called psioincs exists and it works differently than magic, and more similarly to sorcerers' power than any other spellcaster. It is highly unlikely that any of you have ever encountered a psionicist.
