It was "Send in the Claude's."

To start, a recap for Valdis will be worth xp.
The crew went about their business over the six months we spent in Port Talp.  We spent money, spread the word of our legend through bardic tales, hired a new navigator and some additional crew including more Fey refugees (not the ex-cons), and prepared ourselves to take on the eel folk.

Before we set sail, we were visited by the Grand Marshall of Iott and her entourage.  She came on board and magically scanned our defenses.  She was utterly ravishing and thoroughly compelling.  The crew were on their best behavior.  Before she departed, she asked where we were going and invited several of the officers to meet with her after we returned.  She was particularly interested in Claude and his abilities.

We decided to set sail for Icefia after doing some research and concluding that it was the closest major port to the eel folk.  Once we landed in Icefia, some of the crew went exploring, others stayed back, and Claude, Chase, and Midyro went to the shrine of Tfop.  On our way back to the ship, we were accosted by an Ice Gnome claiming that one of us was an "imposter" and that he was going to snuff us out.  We tried talking, but Claude grew tired of discussion (after only one round thanks to his short attention span) and pulled a hand crossbow on him.  The Gnome pulled a sword and threatened us, but in a haphazard way.  He spoke odd and eventually declared himself to be the great "Rednamyerg Edualc."

We tried casting spells and shooting him with the crossbow, but his strength of will was too strong.  Fortunately, his tiny body and lack of actual skill proved easy to overcome and Claude simply used one of his potions to vanish us out and closer to the ship.  The Gnome approached our ship and made idle threats, so we sent the Rope Gollum down to pin and hog tie him.  We stopped with the crew staring at each other and shrugging our shoulders.

We quickly realized that this creature was one of many possible unfortunate side effects of Claude's wish to have "more of himself."  We stopped there.

Rin looks sadly at the Gnome...  Looking back at Claude..

Any Ideas what we do with him?  I'm assuming he's a citizen of Icefea and protected here by their laws.  If we just leave, we might have issues if we ever need to come back to this country to dock, maybe even be accosted as we leave port by the military.  Does anyone else have thoughts?

I get the impression he's new to Icefia, and maybe even the world itself.  He may have winked into existence when Claude made his wish.  If not that, he may have been brought back from the dead or from another time.  He speaks in old Common and believes he's Claude with every fiber of his being.  If there's any way to reason with him and let him know what happened, we may be able to calm him down.  We definitely don't want a reputation for rabble rousing here in Icefia.  I suggest someone dispel or break enchantment on him just in case this is some sort of sorcery.  If not, and this is just how he is, we should probably disarm him and leave him in the brig until we figure out what to do with him.

Amare says, "If we want to be the most cautious here, we should alert the constables immediately.  The downside I see there is that if we want information from him, we might be stuck here for a few days."

I'm sure if we talk to the constables, we'll have to wait around to answer questions as he has a wound in the head.  I guess we are in no rush, but time is money...

We could easily heal that before going to the constables.

“I was just using the darts to try and subdue him. No real damage. But i guess it’s a good thing he is fairly tough. That Royal Scar can leave a garish looking wound. “

I'm not suggesting we hide the fact that he was wounded; just a show of faith that we didn't intend to harm him.  It was self-defense.

A decision before we begin on Thursday as to what you are going to do with the gnome would be helpful.  Mostly, are you planning on spending more than one night in Tripsea.
Title: Re: Send in the Claude's
Post by: Asinjin on November 11, 2018, 12:05:40 PM
Once you are in the city, it becomes increasingly clear Tripsea's purpose is much what you are using it for, a way port as ships travel.  Often that trip is from one end of Icefia to the other, but other voyages are common as well.  As mentioned, one of the three largest Icefian naval bases is here, to the west of the city as you near it.  In addition, there are many dry docks, nearly as many as wet non naval docks.

Ancorage is a good example if you want to google a picture view of it.  The city has just under 100,000 people.

I'd prefer not to take him, but I'd also like to avoid any Imperial Entanglements.

Choice 1: throw the bugger into the brig, allow him to wallow there.  Next creature that comes along needing to kill claude we feed the bazarro claude.. and the multi-verse his happy.  We live happily ever after.

Choice 2:  Leave now, and never come back to Icefia.  Hoping he doesn't have enough coin to rent a boat that can bother us.

Choice 3:  Try to "legally" deal with this. Retaining the ability to dock here.

Amare says, "We want to keep Icefia friendly to us.  We move so fast that time is not of the essence.  I say we do things legally."

Agreed.  We should find out what we can about him then hand him over to the authorities.  Lingering around here too long will attract unwanted attention.

Isn’t “attracting unwanted attention” part of our ship’s mission statement?

We keep saying " hand him over to the authorities "  but I believe he's done nothing wrong.  In fact, he just defended himself.   So this may not go well.

I say we offer him a place on the crew in case we run into another .. um.. winged monster.. in a chance to prove that HE is the true Claude.  Which we all know he'll fail at.  But.. he's a hero underneath, so he'll jump at the chance.  ( with no pay of course )

I think we will be fine as long as tell the authorities the truth.  Icefia has pretty reasonable laws.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't.

I wonder if Claude could sacrifice one of his doppelgangers to pay XP at Natsu's Emporium?  We may have found an infinite XP source for item creation... ;)

Do you question the gnomish impostor before sending him with Gabriel and Sas to the constables?

If so, what methods do you use?

I think I'm most concerned about the Romantic Bard variant of Claude wielding the "Gaymander."  I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want the tip of that sword to penetrate you... :'(

We should ask him where he's from, how long he's been hunting the imposter Claude, and if he's encountered any more imposters in his travels.  And if so, we need to know what he did with said imposters.  We should find out if he's in contact with any other "slayers" in the area.  Also, might want to ask if he's seen any dragons lately.

I suggest Zone of Truth and candles of truth.

He is not particularly clever, and your questions are, so you get the following answers:

- I'm an ice gnome, so clearer I am from Icefia
- I have been hunting him since the day I was born
- No, but I know there are others, and there can be ONLY ONE!
- Yes, in the wilderness, there are a couple
- He freaks out when you use that word, even though on the ship he is immune to fear, he is still freaked out (although not fear conditioned)

A note as you get into colder waters.  The Vass crew, who are lead by Kassis Esslik, the Vass noble who came at the beginning of last season, make sure that it is known they require below deck duties when it gets too cold.  Not including Sas, there are 7 Vass that follow his lead.

The one Vass that does not always hang with his race, Nassissik, who has been with you since the first voyage on the Pride of the Rose.  Does not complain about it.  However, you do think that after his years of sailing with you, he probably has an item that keeps him warm.

A note on crew; other than PCs, there are only two crew that are still there since the first voyage of the Vigilant Seas Amare and Gunner's Mate Gideon.

Again, other than PCs, season two added only one crew that still remains, and that is Aron, an able seamen.

The first voyage of the Pride of the Rose added a number of crew still here: Len, Isiyawi, Thermon, Parker, Til, Ritvali, Nassissik, and Midiyro.
