Ranger Traditions
« on: August 09, 2017, 03:37:12 PM »
This came up recently and I wanted to give some detail and get feedback:

The three significant new ranger traditions are: modern, mundane, and psionic.  They are defined below.  If a ranger chooses one of these other traditions, he may also choose one of the earlier traditions and combine skill sets.  A common example is the Urban Modern Ranger.  In any of these cases, the ranger does not get double the number of abilities.  If there is a conflict, he must choose which one he prefers.  In the Urban Modern ranger as an example, at first level, he may choose between Technology and City Familiarity.

The spell list, psionic list, or lack of list is always taken from the significant new tradition taken (modern, mundane, or psionic).  Therefore, no ranger with the mundane tradition can ever cast spells; no modern ranger is able to cast above 2nd level, and no psionic ranger can cast spells through his ranger class.

Also, Mundane rangers may never cast divine spells, even if they have another class that would allow them to do so.

How do the new psionic rules affect the psionic ranger?

How do the new psionic rules affect the psionic ranger?

Thanks. Suggest we change levels 1-3 to 0 power points (instead of “-”) and keep no powers. That would allow the psionic ranger to gain psionic focus and take psionic feats from 1st level, so it gives them some psionic flavor early instead of waiting until 4th level.

Or give them Wild Talent as a bonus feat, which would do the same thing (that’s how Soulknives work).

Will psionic rangers only have access to certain disciplines or power blocks?

Agree and have changed to a 0 instead of -.

No restrictions on domain, just more advantageous for them to take some over others based on ability scores.
