Phychic Theurge
« on: September 13, 2023, 10:47:06 AM »
This prestige class needs to be updated for 4th era psion rules.  It is a take on the mystic theurge (wizard/cleric).  Two major things needed:
 - what is the psionic requirement for entry (on longed leveled powers)
 - it is too powerful to give a new discipline every level like a normal psion gets?

Requirements
   Alignment: any
   Base Attack Bonus: +0
   Feats: none
   Knowledge (Religion): 5 ranks
   Knowledge (Psionics): 5 ranks
Other: ability to cast 2nd level divine spells and the ability to manifest 2nd level powers

Hit Dice: d6

Class Skills: Skill points at each level: 2+ Intelligence modifier
Autohypnosis (Wis); Concentration (Con); Craft (Int); Knowledge (Religion, Psionics) (Int); Psicraft (Wis)

Table 2-18: Psychic Theurge
Lvl   BAB   FrtSv   RfxSv   WllSv   Special
1st    +0   +0   +0   +2   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
2nd   +1   +0   +0   +3   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
3rd   +1   +1   +1   +3   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
4th   +2   +1   +1   +4   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
5th   +2   +1   +1   +4   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
6th   +3   +2   +2   +5   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
7th   +3   +2   +2   +5   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
8th   +4   +2   +2   +6   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
9th   +4   +3   +3   +6   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level
10th   +5   +3   +3   +7   +1 Caster Level; +1 Manifesting Level

Class Features
•   Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: The Psychic Theurge gains no additional weapon or armor proficiencies.
•   +1 Caster Level: The Psychic Theurge adds one level to an existing divine caster class.
•   +1 Manifesting Level: The Psychic Theurge adds one level to an existing Manifesting class.

Now that magic is nerfed and Psionics works differently, any chance we could allow the Cerebremancer class into the rotation?

Or perhaps a new class; Spiritual Theurge? A combination of Shaman and Psion.

Old rntry rules were 2nd level powers, which a psion would get at 3rd level. So new rules should be equivalent class level, so maybe make it access to 3 disciplines?

I’m thinking one new discipline at each level is too much. That would give more total powers per level than the old psion, and earlier access to higher level powers (so more impact). Maybe consider a new discipline every 7/10 levels. Or go 5/10 and add some psionic bonus feats or special abilities. I always thought the theurge prestige class was kind of bland, so flavorful abilities might help.

All levels should include a boost to manifester level and PP even though a new discipline may not be gained.

Also suggest we build out the “psionic” domain. I don’t think it exists yet. I have some ideas.

I feel like we have enough domains, and I don't like ones that only have one deity attached to them.

I agree on all counts.  Maybe Discipline/Discipline/Psionic Feat...repeat?

Okay by me. I assumed you wanted to develop one for psionics since it’s listed as one of Celetal’s domains on the domain worksheet, but isn’t detailed out.

I have gone back and forth.  I need a 5th for Celetal, but I don't like making one for one deity.

I guess now that we have the psion rules, we could do it.  One power converted to a spell each level with points equal to level?

Ability: Cleric gains the Wild Talent feat. If character already has a PP reserve, it increases by +2. Autohypnosis, Know(psionics), Psicraft, Use Psionic Device become class skills, and the cleric receives a +4 bonus to checks with these skills while psionically focused.

Domain spells can be those spells that are similar to psionic powers or that focus on manipulation of the mind:
1 Charm Person
2 Detect Thoughts
3 Clairaudience/Clairvoyance
4 Modify Memory
5 Telekinesis
6 Probe Thoughts
7 Mental Pinnacle
8 Mind Blank
9 Mindrape or Programmed Amnesia

Thoughts? (Pun intended)

I like it.  However, review to make sure none of the spells appear on a different domain list.  I have always tried to avoid doubling up.

There is some overlap with other domains at a few levels:
  • 3 Clairaudience/clairvoyance - replace with Puppeteer
  • 8 Mindblank - replace with Finding the Center
  • 9 Programmed Amnesia - replace with Mindrape (Evil subtype though, so maybe not) or Dominate Monster
