Rescuing All But One
« on: February 17, 2017, 12:18:44 AM »
To start, here is experience:

Marston - for guns blazing in undead destruction - 3800

Harrick - for animated horses to pull the wagons - 4400

Finn - for several very hand scrolls - 5700

Artemus - for the most successful uses of Turn Undead we have seen in a session - 5700

Note the difference is mostly because of the difference in level.

Who presents the deal to the town?

Who in the town do you present the deal to?

Harrick, being the high cleric deals with the mayor first of all, but he does pull in the religious leaders as well, as he realizes they will present the most problems.

The trial of Gnorton, starts three days after you return.  It is presided over by the gnome chief justice of Grimhold Gnapperhap Slitazelt, a worshiper of Gruweas.

The meeting happens at dinner time the day after you return.  At first, the Mayor assembles the clerics of the town to talk to Harrick about it.  Artemus, Harrick, and Finn are included at the meeting.  Also there is Frederick Welow, cleric of Falan; Arfans, the cleric of Tfop that has gone on the airship with you; Jocoth, the dwarven cleric of Dedestroyt; Harris Gotleadger the pastor of Gruweas; Marsk Kiteron, former lead sheriff and cleric of Lightstalker; Grumber, the dwarven cleric of Drunnbar; and Wisk, the Vass cleric of Lakius.

The meeting takes place at the mayor's town hall.  It is not open to the public, and deputies and sheriffs stand guard.  Many curious townsfolk try to listen in to the meeting.

The mayor calls the meeting to order, "Gathered clergy, Cleric Harrick Kindle of the before now mostly unknown deity Vestalion brings word of a proposal from his lord for our town.  Please give him your attention."  The mayor is dressed in all the finery of his office, suit, insignia, hat which he removes to speak.  He is calm and well spoken and impresses you all with his presence at this heavy meeting.

The group, gathered around a table meant for such meetings, wait for Harrick to address them all from a podium set up at one end of the room.  They have all at this point heard bits of what happened to the crusader army.

All those that were present at the battle are called to testify.  If any of you plan to not testify under oath, let me know.

Harrick climbs to the front of the crowed.. he looks sweaty and unwell, dark circles under his eyes and his short balding grey hair is matted..

" Fellow Gimholdians... We have been living a lie.  We've lived for almost a generation believing the skull lords forces destroyed.  That crusade may have cut off the head, but the body was well and intact.  The Lieutenant of the Skull Lord still resided in the fortress slowly gaining power.  That power was on full display as he crushed the Falanic army that came to destroy him.  That rampaging force was set to attack Grimhold and finish the job it started.  My Lord Vestaleon took matters into his own hands. Riding out to the army and in honorable single combat destroyed the commanding power.  He took control of the legions of undead and then turned back to the fortress with the army to leave us in peace.  He offers us a deal with very few requests.  Leave Vestaleon in his Fortress alone, leave the lands within normal sight of it in peace and he vowed that Grimhold will be forever free of undead he can control.  He gave me a symbol of this deal.. a flaming skeleton which will reside as a beacon on Vestalion's temple here in the town.  As long as it is burning, grimhold will be free of undeath.  What say you?"

There is much discussion among the clerics gathered.  Suprisingly, the first to speak is Grumber, who says, "Falan failed, and failed again.  For now, I say, let us make this deal.  Give us time to reclaim the lands free from undead.  Stay prepared and see if this Vestalion keeps his word."

Frederick Welow soberly responds, "I think a time of respite is fine.  Accept the offer for now."

Marsk says, "We should make no deals with that creature.  Give no response to it.  If it attacks, we will defeat it.  In time, perhaps we can destroy it."  Turning to Harrick, "And keep a close watch on him."

Arfans chimes in, "What can you tell us of your Lord?  Will he keep his word?"  It seems a foolish question, as no one expects Harrcik to say anything but yes.  Arfans asks in nonetheless.

After Harrick says his words I say to the mayor that all the clerics should discuss this in private without Harrick aorund.  When that meeting occurs I say the following.

Falan has not failed.  Our city still stands because of the brave faithful of Falan and the other deities in the city.  That being said there is no need to fight another battle at this time against such a powerful force.  I believe we would win but the loses would be great.   I think we keep this treat for now so we can plan for the future and decide how we will eventually deal with the new leader of the undead.
