Marcus will ask the giants and humans if they know anything about magic.  If they say yes, he will ask them if there is a way to keep the minions of the taker of though from attacking or finding them when they use their spells.  If they answer no, Marcus will dismiss them as inferior and only acknowledge them as he would servants.

The humans response is, "Magic comes only through the favors of the takers."

The giants respond, "We know only what the takers provide."

Your days in the forest waiting are uneventful.  Just as your time traveling through it was.

After two and a half days of waiting, Cloud and Tchau are able to fly up and view the mountains from as high as they can get.

The mountains are jagged and not often covered in snow.  Lower, they are more reasonable and they pick our several passes and plateaus.  They can't see the other side to determine how far across the mountains go, but the good news is that they see clearings at many points that are obvious places where you can teleport to together.

There are no signs of intelligent life.

We can infer from this that we 1) indeed had visitors, 2) They were drawn by the longevity of the spell, not the magnitude of its power.
Pure conjecture. You have as much evidence to support that statement as I would if I said the GoLK's minions were drawn to us because of your silk pajamas.

What can the tree people tell us about the xorn? We were already told they detect and consume gems/precious metals. Anything else useful?

Same question regarding the intellect devourers.

Looking for general information. How many, who commands them, where they live, abilities, weaknesses, etc.

Also, we should probably try a small scale teleport test run prior to attempting to use the spell as a form of mass transit. Strange magic here, would be good to know if it works as expected.

The giants say, "The Xorn-men do not leave the stone mountains.  We once fought them when we mined the stone.  They are heartless monsters.  Only great strength and magic can defeat them.  They blend with the stone, they attacks with hands of gem and teeth of metal.  They are weak when out of their element."

I will assume that Tchau tries this as you what for the clouds to pass.  A short trip works fine.  Also note that Cloud has already twice teleported successfully.

How many are there in the stone mountains? How big are they?

So the xorn should be easy enough to avoid as long as we dont touch the ground and stow any gems and precious metals somewhere they can't detect them.

On to the bigger question: what the hell are we going to do about the temporal stasis?
