Post by: Asinjin on December 08, 2021, 12:10:33 AM
Post any questions that you forgot to ask while at the temple, assumption is you had plenty of time.

Also, questions about your fight and the town where you are.

Everyone gets 250xp with personal bonuses to come.

Everyone disappeared.  The centipede, the villagers following Oz, and the girl from the claw.  They all vanished when Yoshi's firebolt hit/killed the centipede.

Oz will go around and check the other houses for people, items, or any other indication that there is actual life here in this village.

Do the structures change when everyone disappears or do they look the same?

You find people in every house, most are asleep, some are waking up.

Everything looks the same as far as you can tell.

It is open, but not broken.

Seemingly some type of illusion spell cast over the area.  Whoever/whatever cast it is still lurking around out there.

Physically no, but in your minds, they still hurt.

It should be noted that you walked here mostly in the dark and the guide had set your arrival to be during the few hours of sunlight being that is the middle of the twelfth month.  You don't have a lot of daylight left.  As mentioned, there are clouds rolling in.

Arkah scratches her voluptuous belly.

" Why would someone put on a show for us?  Probably to draw us in? " She looks around concerned, scanning the area with her detect evil stink eye.  "Also, it has to be someone who knew what our last foe looked like to re-create it so well" She yells " Come out and fight like a BugBear, Don't cower in the shadows covered in your own shit like a Kobald "

She starts self-grooming her wounds with her tongue

Note that you have no wounds when you lick, although it feels like you do.

I think to Taye: "Could this scenario/illusion have been created through psionic power?  I defer to your expertise in these matters.  It concerns me that our companions are experiencing phantom injuries.  I've never seen anything like that before."

Damien winds his spiked chain back up and looks a little flushed.

"Well, that WAS exciting.  I guess we should look around and see what we can find then?"

Damian hums to himself as he goes to the door of the nearest house and looks inside.

"Good....uh...evening?  Sorry to barge in on you like this.  We just had an encounter in your quaint village.  Big monster, damsel in distress, acrobatic fighting, the stuff of stories.  When we conquered our foe, with no small assistance from yours truly here, the strangest thing happened.  The monster, the damsel, and the other 'villagers' (he does air quotes) all disappeared. Gone.  No puff of smoke, no flash of teleportation, just not there."

Damian will walk over to one of the family members.  "Please don't take this the wrong way and I mean no offense, but, are you real?"

and Damian will poke them, hard

Faint, moderate, strong, overwhelming?

Lingering auras don't give a strength, their strength determines how long it lingers.

Original Strength   Duration of Lingering Aura
Faint   1d6 rounds
Moderate   1d6 minutes
Strong   1d6

Oz rushes in when he hears the commotion.  In flawless Horarian:  "Please remain calm.  I am Pastor Ozmodius Klemenz, Cleric of Quan Yin.  My companions and I (I gesture to Damian) are here to assist you.  We were told your village was under siege by a strange beast, so we came to help.  We mean you no harm.  I realize you're waking from sleep, but when you have a moment, could you confirm if all your family members accounted for?"

Once calm, sensing the presence of a cleric of Quan Yin, the confirm that they are all there.

One child, after a while, asks, "Pastor Ozmodius, were you very good or very bad before you died to come back like that?"  Her parents quickly discipline her and apologize for her breach of protocol.

Oz looks kindly at the child and smiles.  "The teachings of Quan Yin have reached Tafferville in the Great Forest where my people come from.  We too bear many children who are curious like yourself.  Curiosity is a sign of great intelligence young one."  I pat her on the head then stand to face her parents.  "Would you be kind enough to take us to the other dwellings so we can check on the other residents?  I'd like to make sure everyone is safe, and if not, I'd like to assess the situation and administer healing right away."

Okay. I run out the duration of my detect magic (6 min). If the auras are still there when detect ends then we know the effects were at least strong.

Being basically useless in spotting/finding/searching.  I use my diplomacy / sense motive (just slightly less useless) to try to figure out anything weird that might have happened int he town recently.   She's pretty sure at this point that they set a trap for us, so she waits for that to be sprung.

I've been at the temple a long time, have I ever heard of anything similar happening before? Whatever they did to sense the creature, have they ever been misled or wrong before?

We should probably get back right away, either we were mislead or they were mislead and either way we need to get back right away.

"Yes, yes.  Surprise intruder and all that.  We were sent from the 'Bland Belfry', the 'Milk Toast Manor', the 'Prosaic Plague House'. You know the temple of Quan Yin a few hours down the road.  Word was sent to them that your town was in trouble, and they sent us to investigate and assist on their behalf.  Don't be alarmed, there is a rather large bugbear outside, she's not part of the trouble we were sent to investigate, she's, at least it presents as a she, she'd one of the investigators.  There is also a gremlin, a sand lizard, a talking squirrel, and another fellow, he hasn't been that interesting so I have barely taken note of him.  I am Damian Nise, Talented Trubadore of the Realm."

Damian says all of this in an uninterrupted stream, talking over any attempts to interject.  When he is done, he will sit down on whatever surface is available and ask, "So, what can you tell me of what has been plaguing your quaint little village." as he absently starts to slowly swing the end of his spiked chain.
