It has been 18 years since we began the weekly weeknight game. With the Snap approaching, I wanted to run down the list of 18 biggest / best moments from that time.
-
I am going to list the ones the leap to mind for me, you can add ones that you think belong on the list.
-
First on the list is: The Curbstomp Heard 'Round the Planes.
-
Nothing will beat battling the Dragon in the Dragon Palace. The could be the biggest moment ever in the last 28 years for me. I never thought it would be a place that I would have gotten to visit let along survive and win a battle.
-
Claude using wishes should be one moment. (e.g. uprighting the ship and wishing for more claudes)
Also, the battle at the lighthouse when we first started traveling on the Guardian was epic
However, I have a lot of moments for my characters which probably won't make a list but were great for me.
The greatest moment for me and my characters is when Solaris stood toe to toe with the avatar of the frost gods so everyone could escape. Although I couldn't really injure the avatar I stood there for several rounds.
Another great one for Cloud was when he reversed gravity the group of PCs (Ajax included)and sent elementals to take the item (I forget what it was) from them.
Solaris being struck down like Obi wan kenobi and then becoming a Saint.

Capsizing the boat and it getting wished back on my list as well.
Solaris fending off the avatar while everyone escaped also came to my mind.
-
With 14 days left until the SNAP, next on the list for me is:
Ritvali the God, 8 seasons as one of only a small handful of NPCs that survived and stayed on every voyage and it all culminated in the end of a series of unintended consequences on Forgotten Island.
-
Another great moment!
The battle against the dragon at the wizard tower is another one that sticks out to me.
-
So far, the list is (in no particular order):
1. Capsize the Ship
2. Solaris vs. the Avatar
3. Ritvali the god

The wish that awoke the slayer.
Was abjuration school being broken that is second edition right?
The battle in Home that broke time and created the day of the scorpion
-
Slaying dark seas. That was an epic fight.
Defeating undead oares (sp?)
Defeating the undead demigod who was trying to take Falans power.
Another moment for my characters that won’t make the top 18 but that I loved.
Was Nathan charging the demon on the ship and killing it in one charge
And Nathan using rogue wave with hail storm combo. I still love the visual
-
One of Voruk epic charges. I am sure there was one that had a major impact.
-
The wish that awoke the slayer.

The battle in Home that broke time and created the day of the scorpion
Yes, that was 2nd edition.
Day of the Scorpion on my list as well.
-
The Plateau campaign’s fight against the haunted house golem was pretty memorable. Gnevil got the Wicked Witch of the East treatment.

I had considered that one as well. Might be the best way a PC has ever died.
-
I still can't believe I missed that one.

After much consideration, in no particular order:
1) The battle at Palumbpton Stadium: the end of the Bane. One of the most satisfying ends of any arc.
2) The battle at the Forest Edge: the end of Riot and his corruption.
3) The battle of Barnstenagore: so many chaos trolls and an epic alignment debate. I always expected to see more of Lench.
4) The dragons visit the Bardic College in Icefia: by visit I mean attack. Great crossover with a wide variety of characters. That thread is unfortunately lost on the archive page but had some great on boards follow up.

Adding the agony that was the puzzle of the Nonegon.

Adding the agony that was the puzzle of the Nonegon.
I'm going in the way back machine for the next one, TPK - everyone dies at Whitefalls. Despite the DMs best efforts, Avegneer, Brevis, Zalthor Gnick and Atten all met their ends.
-
I don't know if it qualifies as top 18, but I always smile when I think of the time Malchia polymorphed into a dragon and turned away an entire mongoloid army of over 10,000. I don't know where they were headed, but I'd like to think something catastrophic was prevented that day.

That's a good one, although there was much angst from other PCs over that.
-
This might not make the top 18 but it is definitely a moment that has been talked about many times. Ajax waking the sleeping troll causing my character to die. If he had just left it alone...
-
The next one I will add to the list is the arrival of the Collector.

I love that a random encounter caused by a critical failure on a Use Magic Device check resulted in a new religion.

Is wasn't random......hehehehe
-
The next one is probably the saddest of all, the final death of Lennie.
-
That was sad. At least it was an epic battle the dragon underground.

So far, the list is:

With six left, there are a few to consider:
- the death of the Bane
- the tomb of Borkon
- Malchia the Dragon
- Dragons assault the College
- The fields of Chaos Trolls
- Greymander Islans
- The rescue of Emmerick
- Battle the Mad Beast
I think its lost to the old forum, but certainly one of the funniest moments was Hardrada's drawing of a battle with the Frost giants. The accompanied the Battle at Alesund and the seige of Dramman.
-
These are the ones that I think need to make it.
- Dragons assault the College
- The rescue of Emmerick

Gotta be the dragon assulting the college, and Claude wishing for the slayers.
-
Its on there. Three more moments needed.
-
Any other thoughts, four days left and three to go.

These are all excellent choices, so it's hard to narrow down to the final three. For your consideration in no particular order:
1) The Severing (and all the classic good vs. evil battles leading up to it) - Also, Harrick guzzling undead powder like a pixie stick was pretty entertaining.
2) The battle against The Devourer - We had him beat and he was curled up in a corner with 1 HP left when he managed to escape before the final blow.
3) Battle in the Beastlands - I don't remember all the details, but the party was ambushed in the Beastlands as we were traveling through there as a shortcut to somewhere else and we heard the echo crying out in the distance "attack!" and hundreds of beasts descended upon us. Ikraam and I think Vor'ruk were shoulder to shoulder fighting off these things and a moment from death before a gate opened to get us out of there.
4) Daane's Revisionist History - This is going back a long time and I can't remember the details, but I remember a young Malchia traveling with Daane and we encountered someone who was opposed to the Silversword's. Daane got into a heated argument over the history of some event between the two factions and DM had us "roll it out" to settle the argument. It was a friendly skirmish between Daane and this other person. I rolled a natural 20 for Daane and he defeated this person, thus "rewriting" history in his own way. Daane proceeded to write stories and poems over many years in game time to gloat about his victory. Not life altering stuff, but one of the more enjoyable running jokes on Habololy.
5) The Season 20 PC Tournament - This is memorable for all the wrong reasons and remains incomplete to this day. It did, however, lead to many important revisions in our rules, feats, skills, and play structure. I believe this also helped usher in the domain revision.
6) The Gnolls Great Feast - The litter of Gnolls had just killed a unicorn and a host of other creatures. When we had the last foe defeated and on the ground, we surrounded it in a circle and all eight of us consumed the creature in one synchronized bite attack that left viscera flying all over the forest floor. That's some pretty powerful imagery that comes to mind when I think of that moment.
7) Claude - Pretty much his entire existence has brought about some of the funniest and memorable events in the last two decades.

I agree with the Harrick guzzling the dust, but which battle was that?

That was the battle against Bakenrashu.
