Title: A Plan That Worked
Post by: Asinjin on November 19, 2019, 12:54:34 AM
Experience:

Everyone got to put there cool talents on display, killed many giants, no slaves, and captured the leader...all without any casualties...well played

Ajax - for playing the older orc well and getting in good movie quotes - 3900xp

Haas - for a barrage of brutal spells - 4400xp

Valizar, Grant, and Vor'Suk - for each delivering a series of unmatchable brutal attacks - 5200xp

Marco - for a was but not really killing blow and messing up the elves plans - 5500xp

As the dust clears around you, the battle with the scorpions continues and chaos rages on the flank.

Giants around you are begging to make the battle stop as they have surrendered.

Hafar is unconscious.

With 24 days until our next session, we should be able to close this out on the boards.

While in the Zone of Truth.  Marco says I will tell you more as long as the valiant and honorable warriors, clerics and paladin give me their word that what I say does not leave this group here at this battle. (once everyone responds to this post then I will type out what Marco says).

You find that Alberssi is collecting the slaves and leading them out of the encampment.  He has clearly been doing this for a bit of time and it looks like most of the slaves are at a safe distance.

Lukevar says, "So long as the not telling would not force me to break a prior vow I give my word."

If it does not put us at odds, either physical or philosophical, you have my word.  But as in all things, I will defer to Father Haas.

Valizar gives his word, but if Father Haas decides what Marco has to say requires a beating, a can of whoop-ass will be opened.

Rompei finally lands after flying in.. " What.. did i miss?"  looking over the pile of bodies.  Noticing a all too familiar lance-hole in a few.  And an odd series of Gladius marks in one..

Vor'Ruk agrees not to attack,  mostly distracted with talking with the Sword Saint about taking him as a trainee.

After a few more rounds, the giants fend off the attacks of the scorpions, although more than 20 giants are on the ground (hard to say whether dead or not).

The camp is quiet, as the slaves have been lead away and most of the giants have left.  Some have fled and some have surrendered.  Some from the camp have joined the fight against the scorpions and some are trying to stop the chaos in the practice field.

Haas commands the scorpions to stop.

If we can figure out a way to funnel the savage giants through a 200 ft wide area, I can set up a dispel magic wall that will end the enchantment.

Side note, I just realized that our strategy was loosely based on the plot of Zootopia.

“Speak or get out of the way. My first priority is to stop the pointless death occurring all around us. If you have something you need to get off your chest, talk while we work. If you are expecting an attentive audience, save it for later.”

Haas is notably aggravated. Possibly because a trio of puny mortal wizards so casually and repeatedly dismissed the mighty divine blessings of Tyrogatore, and didn’t stick around to be held accountable.

I do not need an audience just confirmation that you will keep this between the group here.  If you would like to do this later then that is fine.

Ajax, at the top of the boulder or pile of bodies, activates his crown of glory and full celestial radiance. “Giants of Baeneral, hear me. The one who has lead you into this ruin lies slain! (Pointing at Hep’s headless corpse (or empty armor)).  Rally here and we will end this madness!”

What do you do to cast that without the material component?  (200gc gem)

Regardless: Those that are not effected by the savagery spell take note and move to listen to you.  Some approach you.

Ajax (anyone w the vow of poverty) uses XP in place of material components. We put that rule in a while back.  (We may also be using the version of that spell with no expensive component, I’ll have to check. I think there are 3 versions).

I try to get the listeners to form up so that if those who are affected by the savagery move to attack they’ll be in position for Haas to dispel the savagery. If not at least they’re in a proper defensive formation.

Haas joins Ajax in front of the ranks, and casts Wall of Dispel Magic 50 ft in front of us. It’s 210 ft long and 10 ft high, so hopefully it covers the entire formation. It will auto-dispel spells cast by Haas.

There is some confusion, but some of the commanders not effected get the idea and give orders.  Those that had been fighting the scorpions take the lead.

Valizar stands at the ready in case any giants make a move against Haas or Ajax.  I drop into a horse stance and apply my "Immovable" ability so I weigh 4000 lbs and get an additional +12 to any bull rush or trip attacks.  I make sure to prominently display the fact that I'm still dripping with Fire Giant gore after having used a severed head as a club.

I circle near Ajax on my bottle of smoke horse, waiting for one of the giants to start the game of charge-chicken.

As I wait for the other to say what they do in the giant formation, and since it will come up at some point, you find that the items:

- a iron torque (searing fire feat to all spells and abilities, must be a worshiper of a deity with fire domain)
- greatsword (holy item of Sutyr)
- girdle (lots of fire and giantish symbols) (must be immune to fire not by spell or magic item)
- full plate armor +3, humanoid only (includes orcs)
- whip (+3 flaming burst, must have weapon focus whip)
- obsidian ring (must have Str of 16+ to wear, immune to poison, constant dimensional anchor)

I say we have the sword destroyed, sell the rest, then split the profits for spending or donating.  As a matter of fact, Lukevar will probably need some money for materials to build a shrine to Tyrogatore.  I tried to spare him the trouble, knowing full well that Valizar would win the bet, but he insisted.  After we square away these giants, he'll need to get to work.

Vor'Ruk would take the armor, donating my full plate +2 ( of yellowian design) in it's place, or the obsidian ring.

I know a wizard/cleric that would pay dearly for that torque.  You all know him too.

Haas dismisses any attempts to have a conversation on the battlefield about anything not related to putting an end to the chaos occurring around us. He does not authorize Grant or Valizar to cast zone of truth until the conflict is resolved. Act first, then talk.

Assuming the conversation occurs later, Haas says to Marco: “We do not need a zone of truth. Trust runs both ways. Speak.”

This is out of the order of when it would be done, but while it fresh, here is what you get in coin:

115,000gc

Vor'Ruk has new armor (which will cost 1,000 to have fitted and modeled so its not offensive or too tight).

The greatsword can be destroyed. (at least attempted)

What power level does detect magic yield?

Tomorrow Haas can try to greater dispel and sunder it. Checking that the dispel worked before attempting to break it.

I have improved sunder (via item), +5 fists (via greater magic weapon), and can turn them adamantine (via weapon of the deity).

Note that casters automatically succeed on dispel checks made against their own spells. So any savage giants that come through the wall will be successfully dispelled.

Just making sure everyone had a chance to chime in...

The group, still more than 200 standing and fighting, make a move and then a charge in your direction.

In a massive pile up, they begin to hit the dispelling screen and immediately slow, causing those behind to collide with them and fall forward.  It is a colossal mess, but the fighting stops.

Lukevar stands watch over him as you all deal with the giants.

Once the chaos has settled, which takes an hour or so, Nabil begins to order and slap down the giants that he thinks lead the way in helping Hafar.  "Your actions today will be judged!  Those of you that chose the side of the weak and deceitful will know the pain of Tyrogatore!  Your families will not be held to account because of your actions!  Know that I am Nabil, Sultan of Baenrl!  For now and until I am defeated!  Praise Tyrogaotre!  Long Live Baenrl!"

I don’t believe Ajax’s windwalk was dispelled. He departs quietly and returns to the fortress where he left Brightsoul.

Also when we get a chance let me know a good time that we can get back to Marco.  This also depends on Haas's agreement to keep his word not to disclose anything Marco tells him.

Later on, after settling down and after getting Haas to begrudgingly agree to give his word as long it doesn't violate any of his morales or ethics, Marco tells his story. (before telling the story Marco cast see invis and detects scrying)  My name is Keldaan Windblade member of the Rosetree royal guard.  I have come here because I could not bear to stay in the Rosetree forest while this war rages on and the final straw came when I saw an opportunity to stop Sutyr's evil giants to gain control of Banerl again.  Unfortunately, I had to come in secret because I do knot have the blessing of the Rosetrees or the kingdom because of many of the circumstances that have happened in the war.  The most notable being the slaughter of the northern elves by the gnolls.  With all these events and questionable allies on both sides of the war the elves will not join the war. If I am found to be here supporting either side then this would cause great trouble for the kingdom and I will not bring that upon the kingdom which I love.  However, like I said I could not standby and watch so I took an approved leave from my station as a royal guard and have decided to travel here in disguise and do whatever I can to help.  However, if you all cannot keep the secret of who I am then I must leave and deny ever having been here.  I know many of you do not like the grey areas which I discussed here but I have followed my conscience and am trying what I see best for the great good of Habololy.

We met once, briefly, on the road outside of Palumbton. I am honored by the trust you demonstrate here Keldaan, and I am glad your conscience aligned you and your sword with our cause.

I offer you some advice. Tyrogatore teaches us that our actions are like tattoos, forever a part of us and displayed for all to see. You should not conceal your decision to participate in this conflict, nor hide your identity. To do so brings dishonor to yourself and our cause. Instead, take ownership of your choice and fulfill your duties with steadfast determination so that others may be inspired by your actions.

The magic items are Golden Arm Bands, something inside of a sack, a girdle and spiked gauntlets.
Can we identify and determine a value of these items from Hafar?

We already did the other batch from the hobgoblin.

This is out of the order of when it would be done, but while it fresh, here is what you get in coin:

115,000gc

Vor'Ruk has new armor (which will cost 1,000 to have fitted and modeled so its not offensive or too tight).

The greatsword can be destroyed. (at least attempted)

I will assume you can get that done, it may take a few days.

The girdle is abjuration, it can only be used by giants, it grants resistance to critical hits, favored enemies and cold.

The golden arm bands also can only be used by giants and grant the wearer full AC against touch attacks.

The spiked gauntlets have no restriction.  They eliminate bonus AC from size, are +3 and wounding.

Inside the bag is a leather bandage that heals at ten times the normal rate while resting.

There is a sizable amount of xp for anyone that can post a recap of the three sessions.
The first session started out with the group gathering information on exactly who our allies are in the war since the Battle of Owt.
We found out that neither side advanced much.  The Wugs and Orcish legion have been conducting minor skirmishes between sides of the perceived border, trenches and fortifications have been established, and refugees from the area have fled.  No other major clashes yet.

The Gnolls remain camped just outside Owt and have taken over the surrounding area, guarding against incursions from Scalehome.  The residents of Owt are still living in the city and are helping to recover from the recent siege and aid in the war effort from within their borders.

Further research revealed that the Rosetree Kingdom has declared Balinhost and their allies unwelcome.  They have allied with Scalehome, but continue to allow trade and travel with members of the old alliance, at least for now.  They have declared that until Balinhost relinquishes their coalition that includes Baenrl and Garlaccal, as well as the loose allegiance to the humans of southern Yellowia, no formal relations between the two will be allowed.  Balinhost, knowing that even if they relinquish those allegiances Rosetree will not join them against Scalehome, has refused.

Ellic continues to wander Habololy in search of allies.  Yellowia will not join since the southern Yellowia horsemen are part of the alliance.  The Orcish Empire is annoyed with us since a rogue legion is on our side.  The nations of the Odd Lands remains neutral.  The Destroytian Republic is allied with Iott so they can offer no help.  Thalmeret sees no advantage to extending aid.  Amansky hasn't committed to either side yet, but intel reveals they lean towards Scalehome if it comes down to an ultimatum.  Jaswap has officially declared for our side.  Treetop, Habastly, Hemator, and Pacyr all remain neutral.  Lakius has no interest in the situation.

As far as religious leaders that Haas has contacted go, here's the breakdown:
Han~Sui pledges allegiance.  His faithful are barred from joining Greenfellow (unless grandfathered into alliance previously).
Drunnbar supports us.
Mouser supports us.
Tfop allows each cleric and faithful member to decide for themselves.
Gnarion's faith cannot decide since Gnolls and Fire Giants are despised, but Greenfellow is seen as a subjugater.
Dedestroyt doesn't pick sides in war.
Celetal remains neutral.
Smofarf remains neutral.

The second session was spent entirely preparing for combat against the hellhounds and Fire Giant slavers that were headed our way.  The group was also planning their liberation of Baenrl.  Here is a list of allies and enemies:

Karim is the fire giant ambassador who delivers messages to Balinhost and came to warn us of the hell hounds.
Nabil is the current sultan and follower of Tyrogatore.
Hafar is the last sultan looking to take back the throne.  He worships Sutyr.
Gerton Hep is the hobgoblin Tyradin Tyrantmaker.
Issam Gutur is the fire giant general who was in command of the outpost in the forest.
Darvin Collingson is the high cleric of Han~Sui who sent Haas the letter about scrying and also blessed the crusade in the name of Han~Sui.
Jeevone Deluke is the highest ranking cleric of Tyrogatore in the Destroytian Republic.
Lukevar Madraker is a destroytian warrior, once of their army and a competitor in the last Suian.  He is said to be Martin's equal.
Aion Veyro is his squire.
Albersi Leera is the Nipit do-gooder who arrived with information about Baenrl.
Marco is his bodyguard who we know now to be Keldaane.
Jacoob Lexitar is the high cleric of Han~Sui from Jaswap.
Caert Fortesur is an orcish warrior from a noble family in Yellowia.
Brennan Steelblade is another Yellowian noble with the crusade.
Joven is a young follower of Stasis that is clearly not of noble birth.

The group was able to thwart the attack of the hellhounds and we were able to save the fire giant villagers in the forest and get them to safety.  We suffered no casualties and captured their leader.  We then planned our counter-coup against the growing forces in Baenrl.

The final session involved the showdown between Nabil and Hafar's forces.  Hafar had many reinforcements marching their way toward the keep, but the Tyrogatore troop was waiting in the wings.

The group split in order to get word to Nabil that we were here, bolster his troops, and sabotage Hafar's troops.  We decided to use the blessings of Tyrogatore against the mass of fire giants who were in between shift rotations.  Haas confused them with a mighty spell and roughly 200 giants began battling to the death in open practice fields.  With the commotion of battle far off in the distance, the rest of the group was able to sneak into Hafar's camp and confront the leaders of the coup.  Before doing so, we released the women and slaves then Haas summoned gargantuan hordes of scorpions and other wild beasts to flank the giants who were guarding the border.  This caused mass chaos among the troops and took many more giants out of the fight.  We used that opportunity to challenge the Tyradin, his captain, and his lieutenants to single combat.  The battle ensued, but many of the giants in camp rose to fight us.  All of us ripped a path through the giants to get to the Tyradin.  Once there, Ajax dismissed his mighty nighmare steed and took the fight to him directly.  The rest of us prevented interlopers from interfering and crushed the skulls of anyone who tried.  There was so much carnage that giants were fleeing in terror after witnessing the mighty justice of Tyrogatore chop down their ranks with a single blow in some cases.

Once defeated, Ajax stripped the Tyradin of his tainted possessions and called for Nabil to judge him of his crimes.  After defeating Hafar and his warriors, Haas put up a wall of dispelling and purges the giants in the practice field of their curse.  Nabil then came down to witness the aftermath and to chastise those that rose against him.  Hafar lies unconscious at the feet of the party.
