When we pick up next week, it will be the 10th day of the 10th month of 788.
The day has finally stopped.
The mayor estimates that about a tenth of the city nearest you is clear of significant delusion. The next mission is to clear the lake on the other side of the city.
-
There is a wand that you picked up from the sprite that radiates Conjuration minor.
-
Can anyone there identify it?
-
Can anyone there identify it?
There are no casters that can and will cast identify, although there are some that are willing to try and use it to find out what it does.
-
I can do that on my own I picked up some use magic device last level
-
Although let me think about it before I actually do it
-
The following morning, after the blindness recedes, Grant sets up some wards around their sleeping area and around the main meeting areas
-
Also, you have the lightly clothed halfling that you still have to interrogate. I will assume you did this before that attack that night, so no questions yet about the attack.
Getting this done before next week would be best.
-
I recall someone asking or saying you wanted the lake scouted. Is that correct, and who does that?
-
No one should go alone. It should be all of us or no one.

When Lady Veronia offers to send her owls when she hears the lake is your next objective.

Lady Veronia offers to send her owls when she hears the lake is your next objective.
I thought her owls were already positioned all over Owt. I also recall Veronia saying her owls are immune to the charms. Have they seen anything near the waterfall or the lake since the incursion took place? Have they noticed anyone tampering with the water or casting spells near that area?
Can Haas Scry the area so that we don't have to be there in person? Even better, can we drop a familiar item to the bottom of the lake and Scry down there?
-

They do fly all over, but she was asking if you wanted them to pay particular attention to the lake and search more closely.
-
Have they noticed anyone tampering with the water or casting spells near that area?
No, but she only has them looking for obvious things out of place. They aren't all that smart and have to cover a large area. You appearing was obvious and out of place.

What are you thinking? Haas will help.
-
Can Haas Scry the area so that we don't have to be there in person? Even better, can we drop a familiar item to the bottom of the lake and Scry down there?
Yes, Haas could cast scry location (http://dnd.arkalseif.info/spells/complete-scoundrel--60/scry-location--903/index.html) and pick a stationary point at the lake to look around from. Would probably have to get pretty lucky to pick the right spot.
Alternatively, maybe one of Saladien's flying animals would volunteer to scout around with a chain of eyes (http://dnd.arkalseif.info/spells/spell-compendium--86/chain-of-eyes--4016/index.html) spell active? That way we could see the area for ourselves. And maybe we could do the same below the water.
-
So if I recall correctly, we were harassed by a faerie dragon during the fight against the shadow fey and dusk giants at Chaedsolas. Correct?
Was it the same one?
-

How about the waterfall?

Yes, you are not sure if its the same one.

Can anyone summon a swimming creature or polymorph into something useful?
-
A note on the captured Halfling, no one recognizes him among the residents of Owt present.

Can someone dispel or break enchantment on the greased up Halfling?
-

This is not difficult , so I will assume that one of the spellcasters dispels him. His appearance does not change, and he now has not active spells.
-
Yes, you are not sure if its the same one.
So whoever spotted it last time (Saladien or Cyrus?) doesn’t recognize it?
-
How about the waterfall?
Sure. I suggest we spend a day doing remote recon (scrying, animals) before we travel to the lake.
-
So whoever spotted it last time (Saladien or Cyrus?) doesn’t recognize it?
It is about the correct size; however this one was coated in glitterdust and faerie fire, so its hard to say for sure.

The Lady will send her owls out that night. Haas scryes? Anything else?

I would prefer to use one from Saladien's flock; I don't completely trust Owl Lady yet. Haas will cast "chain of eyes" on the scout.
He will also scry location on the waterfall.
-

I could do a water elemental for 40 rnds.
-
I could do a water elemental for 40 rnds.
That would be nice for scouting the bottom of the lake.
-
He will also scry location on the waterfall.
You watch for twenty minutes and see no activity other than the standard water. I assume you watch during what would be a busy time. Your scrye does not get the entire lake.
-

I will assume you scrye and then cast the chain of eyes. The bird that you cast it on flies around the lake, around noon and after when it would be crowded.
You see lots of activity around the lake, halflings mostly and a few others fishing and getting water. Its a bit too cool for swimming or water play.
-

You would have to get close enough to summon it so it would have time to move around the lake.
-
What are you thinking? Haas will help.
Strategically placed Runic Markers. The thought is to out them in sensitive areas (Our sleeping areas, the sleeping areas of the powerful people of the town, etc...) Only give the password to those who truly need it.
-
Currently, you are sleeping in a camp you made outside of the building where the city leaders were staying. You block the road. There are no buildings around capable to keeping all of you, as Valizar, the orcs, and the gnolls are all bigger than almost all inhabitants of Owt.
-
Vor'Ruk implements " Watch practices implemented by the Cannies on the boiling line" to try to minimize our exposure.
-
Saladien agrees with Haas and doesn't completely trust the owl guard either. I think it would be good to use one of my animals (it looks like you have already done that).

I assumed you were okay with it, thank you for confirming.
During your day long viewing using the Chain of Eyes, you see many things. I will assume you ask the city leaders if these are normal, and filtering out what turns out to be normal activity, what you are left with is what I will list.
- There are halflings paroling the lake. They stop anyone who approaches the lake and talk with them before the proceed. On multiple occasions, you observe a halfling cast a spell on those that approach.
- There is a group of heavily armed elves that circle the lake around 4 in the afternoon. Five in total, they are not recognized by any of the city leaders.

Can anyone tell through the spell whether the Halflings and Elves are legit or Fey in disguise?

I don't believe the Chain of Eyes allows any spell that could determine that to be cast through it.

What about through Scry?

What about through Scry?
Looks like the same spells available. The basic detections won't reveal that.

I assume the halfling patrols aren't sanctioned or recognized by the Owt leadership either?
Are they there the entire time we're watching (up to 20 hrs)?
What does the halfling patrol do when they encounter the elves?

No

Patrols are, but not the same halflings.
-
What does the halfling patrol do when they encounter the elves?
Nod to each other.

Excellent plan.

Haas suggests Saladien and Grant question the halfling. Use Valizar if you need a "bad cop."

Kellen, the Emenotan champion and city leader, when he sees the prisoner and later asks what you intend to do, suggests, "One of the foot or me might be better, as we speak halfling and can play the role."

Grant agrees with Kellen in this

Are there any spells you cast or things you do in preparation for questioning him? Where do you take him for that?
Also, list the questions.

Grant can activate a 'Zone of Truth' with his boots
Some questions:
- Who are you
- Why were you skulking around the Cleric of Celetal's temple
- Who do you work for
- Do you have any allies nearby
-

please describe these elves, and what gear they ware so I can formulate the best way to stomp them, and prevent them from running away like.. well and elf.

Grant or Saladien should probably make a diplomacy check with the inspiration spell. I forget the name of it.
-

They are thoroughly armed, but you would not describe them as heavily armed (being an orc). Armor, bows, swords. They are clearly northern elves by the completion and equipment. They walk and move with precision.

When you wake him, he is scared. Saladien can roll the inspiration spell enhanced diplomacy check.

I really hope you meant 'bows' otherwise this campaign just took a really dark turn....

Those can be set to active based on creature type/subtype. That's handy.

Fishing from the shore, boats, or both?
Can we tell where the visitors to the lake are coming from - e.g., Owt, the troop encampment.

I assume Fey.

Some questions:
Answering in Halfling, scared to the point of mumbling, seemingly very cold. The now clearly fey touched Halfling (by his slender facial features and lesser amount of hair.

He looks confused by this question and shakes his head.

Fishing from the shores.

No, the area not far from the lake is forested, you can't see through the surrounding trees.

Same answer

Again, these questions get gently translated and asked far from Valizar.
sniffle, "He was asked to do it."

Since you decided to spend a day scouting and casting, we will pick up the night of the 10th/ morning of the 11th of the 10th month.
You left Balinhost on the 3rd day of the 10th month. So its a week into the time it will take the gnolls to arrive.
