If anyone has anything else they needed or wanted to do in the months before this session, or the week or so until you leave, post away.

The first day you are back in Grimhold after you journey north is the 9th day of the 3rd month of 788.

Wanted: Able bodied guide needed to lead an expedition into the Underdark.  Must possess an iron will and embody the spirit of freedom.  Potential candidates must provide their own weapons, but travel gear and ammunition will be supplied.  If things get rough, hazard pay will be made available.  Enquire about further details at Artemis' shop.

Harrick comments to Marstan:  "You should make sure this person won't act wildly when we are lead into the underdark by undead.  I don't belive Vestalion will act kindly to you destroying his messanger guide"

The details will be made clear to whomever we choose during the interview process.  I don't want to incite a riot by posting words like undead and Vestalion.  We don't need any rogue agents of Gnorton or other bounty hunters coming after you or the rest of our party during our expedition.

I'll make a mention that it involves me since I'm sheriff, but not the others.

There is a steady trickle of people at first.  Once word reaches New Grimhold and the settlers' lands, many arrive.

I interview each candidate and get a feel for their motives, whether it be honorable, greedy, etc.  +15 Sense Motive.  I review everyone's answers and consult with the group on who would be best.

OOC:  Maybe you could send me a list of the top five choices and we'll pick from them.  Maybe narrow it down to level, class, faith, and how much it's going to cost to hire them.  I also would like to wait for the Order of the Sunlight Below representative to arrive.  Best to be fully prepared.

Here is one letter that you received:

Hello my name is Rathos (DM can fill in his last name if possible but most likely you have heard it because it is one of the top gun merchants in all of the plateau).

I am a graduate of The Bardic College of Icefia and have been around the world on many adventures to stop the forces of evil.  I have adventured with such heroes as the 3 Archmages of Icefia, Saint Solaris of Hemator and the world renowned Relic Hunter Parker.  I have been to the  many places around the world including Icefia, the Plateau and the String Mountains just to name a few.   I have many skills I have learned in the bardic college and through my training as an acrobat.   Recently, after hearing about the amazing opportunities in Grimhold,  I have returned to the Plateau to explore the land and go on new adventures.  Adventuring is a way of life for me and how I make my living.  I will be staying in (an upscale Inn in grimhold) so please contact me if you are in need of my services.

We should all dust off our characters from Whitesword's short-lived Underdark campaign. That one didn't end in a TPK ,so those characters should all be alive/available.

And I summon (http://dnd.arkalseif.info/spells/book-of-exalted-deeds--52/valiant-steed--34/) Fiona a pet to keep her company.

Unicorn. More of a conversationalist than a pegasus.

Along those same lines, is fey ring (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fw/20040710a) an option?

Because the Beastlands and Arborea are blocked, you would be limited in what you can call, but it is a legal spell.  You cannot call things that are already on Habololy.

If everyone chips in 350 gc each, Finn can call a greater earth elemental (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/elemental.htm#earthElemental) to accompany us for the next 7 days. Might be handy to have a huge 21 HD bodyguard that can travel through stone to accompany us into the Underdark.

Harrick contributes, but lets you know that it makes him uneasy ripping a sentient creature out of it's home plane and make it serve you like some sort of slave against it's will.  Interesting how ones perceptions change to meet their own needs...

Ripping? No, that's not how it works. Habastly is the Earth Father, Creator of all Life. I will ask for His favor, and if He decides my faith is strong and my cause is worthy, He will bless me and send one of His children to help. To compare the divine grace of the Creator to slavery is insulting.  To imply it is on the same level as the mockery of life that you pursue is blasphemy.

"Summons Extension" feat + Summon Greater Elemental (http://dokdorspace.com/dndtools/spells/planar-handbook--79/summon-greater-elemental--2170/index.html) spell.

The spell's concentration requirement still applies for the duration.

I just found the Wall of Salt (http://dnd.arkalseif.info/spells/sandstorm--85/wall-of-salt--3147/) spell, which creates a massive quantity of salt that's 55 ft long x 5 ft high x 11 in thick = 252 ft3 = ~33,000 lbs. According to the PHB, salt has a market price of 5 gc/lb. Cast > harvest > profit?

Fin's going to be the Plateau's Salt Baron. Natsu would be proud.

"For every 10 experience points sacrificed by the caster, the creature will remain for an extra day past the spells normal duration."

Normal duration is concentration + 1 round. With the feat, duration is concentration + 1 round + X days?

Edit: If not, a normal summon nature's ally 6 provides a huge elemental. That will also work (though not as awesome).

That has to be one of the greatest abuses of Habastly's blessings I've ever seen.  Well done.

That nonsense is why there is a creation ban.

But for our purposes, the salt is not usable in foodstuffs, it makes them taste terrible.

To keep it simple, I only want everyone's secondary characters to join and the OotSB NPC.  Other than that, I'm good.  If someone has any additional character ideas they want to play, and of course get approved by DM, then they can join too.

It'll depend on how many extra characters join.  A week's work in this town is what...3-5 GP?  It'll be more than that with hazard pay, but I'll have to figure out exactly how much.  I'll be sure to make it appealing for higher level characters to join.

To DM: If you have any NPC's you really want to introduce, let me know and I'll base the wage on how powerful they are.

I'm not interested in 1st level wizards, so no loss there.  They wouldn't last the distance of the walk, let alone any combat in the Underdark.

A mission to the underdark for a week out of the town, you'd be looking at 50gc per level plus food and drink.  That would be a fair rate.

Okay, 50gc per level it is.

If anyone capable of removing vampiric curses joins us, I'll sweeten the pot.  I'd rather recover Elizabeth than have to end her.

Both vampires and umber hulks have gaze attacks, so anything that helps against those would be tops on your list.

Having hunted vampires all his life, Marston tells everyone that they're susceptible to silver and magic weapons.  They're resistant to electricity and cold, but fire and acid works just fine.  They're fearful of garlic and mirrors.  I recommend everyone wears a garlic necklace and keeps a mirror on their person in case you're cornered.  It won't harm them, but it will keep them at a distance and they won't be able to grapple you.  If they get their hands on you, they'll drain your stamina until you become one of them.  When they feel outnumbered or weakened, they'll take alternate forms and flee like cowards.  Don't let them.  We'll need wooden stakes and holy symbols to finish them off and we'll need to destroy their living space, such as coffins, urns, etc.  It's also helpful to have means of resisting fear.  If they lock eyes with you, be prepared to fight for your life.  If they get into your head, they'll control your every action.

I can't speak to the abilities of the Umberhulk.  That's why I'm hiring guides familiar with the Underdark.  If they're vampiric, all the weaknesses mentioned above will apply to them as well.

We will start tonight with the interviews of the relevant people and you collecting the equipment you think you will need.

The plan is to leave the day after the member of the OotSB arrives.

For sake of ease, I will assume that Finn is taking care of business on his farm until Dimitri arrives.
