When someone asks you if you're and immortal....you say yes!

If anyone got a level, please message me that you did.

For the next two weeks before the session, you need to discuss how you are traveling to the mountains (mode and time).

If you have any more questions for the bark-skinned giants, you can ask.  In addition, you could stop at any of the human settlements along the way.

Marcus advises we use the Teleport/ Fly-Walk to cover the most ground.  In the areas of the forest where it is less dense and easier to walk we do so.  Where it is thicker and/or would make progress slower we use the teleport to move forward

We have a clear path to the mountains now, so we should walk and fly until we get out of the forest.  There's no need to waste all your magic.  Besides, if we refrain from using unnecessary magic, we won't attract the attention of the observers of magic.  You remember...it's those blinking lights we saw during the battle with the ocean giant.  We need to stay away from those things.  The boss warned me not to get the attention of the GOLK.  Those two aren't exactly the best of friends.

I suggest walking to the edge of the forest where we have a clear path to the mountains.  Once we get there, all you smart people can observe a nice spot at the top of the mountain, then we can teleport to the top.  From there we should be able to spot a nice place to land in the dessert, then teleport down.  We may even be able to see the monument of the foreigners from up there.

If I concentrate hard enough, I'll be able to get a better idea of where we need to go.  I think spending so much time with you fine people has had a positive effect on me.  Like I said, I'm getting smarter all the time, yes I am.

"It will take too long to just walk.  The Teleport/walk/fly method is the one that will get us through the forest the quickest.  As long as we don't use magic that lasts in the hours range, we won't be accosted by anything while we travel."

After that Marcus basically collapses onto his carpet

Shono looks sadly at you all.  " Walking through the Forrest is one of life's great pleasures.. You shouldn't rob yourselves of this experience!!! "

I agree with you Shono but this forest has brain with legs that blast you with forces that drain your force of personality.  I also think the lights only showed up when we cast higher levels spells.  Also the lights might show were we cast the spell but we will be hundreds of miles of away after the cast and they likely will not be able to tell where we teleported too.  I like the plan of walking and teleporting through forest and take about 2 weeks time instead of the month of just walking.

But if we teleport too frequently, we run the risk of getting separated.  We need to remain together to be effective.  I just think we should save our teleports for real times of need, like getting over the mountain.  Of course, it's up to everyone, not just me.  I'm simply stating my concerns.  Whatever everyone decides is what we'll do.

I will give until Thursday for you guys to finalize a plan.  Right now, it appears the compromise, consensus is walking and teleporting to the mountains, a combination of the two which will end up getting you there in two weeks.

Keep in mind that Cloud and Tchau are the teleporters, so they ultimately have the veto on this debate.

If anyone has questions for the bark skinned giants or the humans you encounter, I will give you until Monday to ask them.

When we pick up next week, I want to be at least to the Mountains.

Now that is a good idea.  I do have that in my spell book.  We can go on phantom steeds.

Marcus groans from atop his carpet.  "Fantastic.  Brilliant even.  Between our combined intellect, we have figured out that spells that have durations that last hours gets the notice of the followers of the God of Lost Knowledge.  What do you decide to do with this knowledge?!?!  'Oh, let us cast a bunch of spells that last several hours and SIT ON THEM.'  I swear, by every god on the council, do none of you think past the next six seconds?"

Before we leave this immediate area, after the bark-skinned giants leave, Haze will look around the area at the ones we defeated for a piece of one that can be used as a staff for Marcus

You find that other than a bark exterior, the interior of the giants in human like and not suitable to a staff.

Perhaps it is because my meager brain does not process information as effectively as your superior intellect, oh Supreme Sorcerer of Overwhelming Power, but haven't you been casting multiple, long duration spells of low level every night and sleeping in them? The watchers have not appeared then. As I recall, they showed up as Cloud tried to cast one high level spell over a dozen times. I believe it is the power of the magic that draws their attention. But like I said, maybe I am wrong because I am not as smart as one such as yourself. Please share with us the data on which your expert mind has based the conclusion that the watchers are attracted to spells with long durations. [takes out his notebook and waits].

You are correct, you are not as smart as the rest of us.  Perhaps your meager brain does not remember the events of last night, when I created several of those shelters.  In the morning when we awoke, there was one less.  We can infer from this that we 1) indeed had visitors, 2) They were drawn by the longevity of the spell, not the magnitude of its power.

Though you may indeed work in and around a hub of magical activity and confluence, you are ever apart from it.

With a speed of 240 and flying when cast by Cloud (assuming he has the spell), you could reach the mountains in 6 days (that assumes you travel on them 10 hours a day, which since no one can actually ride well is probably the limit of what you can reasonably do).  The flyers are far slower, so you would need one for the two carpet riders and Oira.  That's 8 spells per day.

That is too many spell slots.  So let's stick with the original plan to take about 2 weeks to get through the forest  by teleporting and walking.   I guess if everything goes smoothly maybe we can start discussing how to get over the mountains to save us time the next time we play.

With few better options and debate having gone as far as it can, you settle upon traveling by foot / carpet for a day and then teleporting.  By this method, it takes you two week to reach the mountains.

In that time, you encounter only as many humans as you want to meet.  The giants leave you alone, unless you wish to talk to them.

As you near the mountains, you can see that they are grey and ragged.  They have little vegetation growing on them and the rise out of the ground quickly as if some angry deity split the earth by driving them into upward.

The tops are covered in mist and cloud and they appear to rise very high.  However, reflection tells you that the mountains are not extremely high, but seem rather higher because of the lack of slope leading up to them.

You will not be able to see far from the top at this point, so that you can easily teleport to the other side.

How high do we have to fly before we see over them?  Is the mist naturally there or will it clear up?

It is natural, it will clear at some point for you to see.  Based on Cloud's knowledge in that arena, probably nor more than three days.

If you fly high enough to see over them, they will obscure your view of what is below at a distance.

I say we wait in the relative safety of the forest.  Then when it clears up we teleport over the mountains.  I don't even want to stop on them if we can avoid it.

I will give until tomorrow for any objections before I continue.

Still feel free to ask any questions of the humans or giants.

Marcus will ask the giants and humans if they know anything about magic.  If they say yes, he will ask them if there is a way to keep the minions of the taker of though from attacking or finding them when they use their spells.  If they answer no, Marcus will dismiss them as inferior and only acknowledge them as he would servants.

The humans response is, "Magic comes only through the favors of the takers."

The giants respond, "We know only what the takers provide."

Your days in the forest waiting are uneventful.  Just as your time traveling through it was.

After two and a half days of waiting, Cloud and Tchau are able to fly up and view the mountains from as high as they can get.

The mountains are jagged and not often covered in snow.  Lower, they are more reasonable and they pick our several passes and plateaus.  They can't see the other side to determine how far across the mountains go, but the good news is that they see clearings at many points that are obvious places where you can teleport to together.

There are no signs of intelligent life.

Pure conjecture. You have as much evidence to support that statement as I would if I said the GoLK's minions were drawn to us because of your silk pajamas.

What can the tree people tell us about the xorn? We were already told they detect and consume gems/precious metals. Anything else useful?

Same question regarding the intellect devourers.

Looking for general information. How many, who commands them, where they live, abilities, weaknesses, etc.

Also, we should probably try a small scale teleport test run prior to attempting to use the spell as a form of mass transit. Strange magic here, would be good to know if it works as expected.

The giants say, "The Xorn-men do not leave the stone mountains.  We once fought them when we mined the stone.  They are heartless monsters.  Only great strength and magic can defeat them.  They blend with the stone, they attacks with hands of gem and teeth of metal.  They are weak when out of their element."

I will assume that Tchau tries this as you what for the clouds to pass.  A short trip works fine.  Also note that Cloud has already twice teleported successfully.

So the xorn should be easy enough to avoid as long as we dont touch the ground and stow any gems and precious metals somewhere they can't detect them.

On to the bigger question: what the hell are we going to do about the temporal stasis?
