Title: Plan of Attack
Post by: whitesword on October 29, 2013, 01:15:38 PM
We appear to have lots of time

I owe you a list of the Onice task masters, your new cleric and the number of symbols on the grid.

Would we be well advised to lay low for a day or two, to rest and make sure we don't rush into anything?

"I still think it is good for us to have a presence on the streets.  Let's not do anything stupid, but I am not going to hide inside either.  Robert, at some point you and I need have another session"

I would love to try to decipher this grid.  Go up and down and write down any symbols we see.  I think we should keep the grid quiet, we don't want them to move anything other then the slave pens.

"Perhaps we can use the death of the Sergeant to our advantage here.  Don't let anyone know he is going to return, and we don't do much, acting defeated.  Then we make a big play after they let down their guard a bit."

Are we going to find out on the boards what the deal with the food was?

What do you have in mind Robert?

"If we retreat from our most recent aggressive policing for a few days, they may believe we have lost our leader and spirit.  Then, they may not act as defensively and we can get to them more easily in a raid."

The Taskmasters: the Red Ninja tells you the following:

The Taker: Kay'en. Late twenties, half Horarian, male.  Malfesseus' apprentice. A dangerous armed and unarmed combatant. He has a dedicated squad of kidnappers at his disposal but it is not clear how many are in the city.

The Reaper: Panaris (Kenai): late early to mid forties; half Horarian male.  Possibly Malfesseus' uncle or first cousin. Actually senior to Malfesseus at one point but unsuited to leadership. Pure killer with no other role in the organization. Has not been seen in the city for months.

The Shackle: Eretz: male Gatori, age unknown. Responsible for watching over male slaves. Stupid but patient. Reportedly a cleric of Lavash Ki. Likely in hiding in the city.

The Scourge: Mayac: male, possibly from Thalmeret, mid twenties. Reportedly a Tyradin of Sutyr. Enforcer for extortion and slave discipline. Also responible for the group's aresenals. Usually in disguise. Likely in the city.

The Promise: Shien Onice: female, late thirties, 3/4 Horarian, Pendath's niece. Madame for secret brothels. Beautiful but has a significant scar across her throat. Expert with drugs and poisons.

The Strongbox: Qi'Vai: male Islander, late fifties. Treasurer and Quartermaster. Heavyset and surly, dislikes elves and Icefians alike. Always well guarded but moves about openly.

The Hold: N'Gaian: male Horarian, late forties, chief smuggler. Shipbound, may be stuck in the city. Speaks several languages. Skilled fencer.

The Forge: Name Unknown: male, half Horarian,  age unclear. Wizard, possible arcane crafter. Always behind the scenes.

The Sphere: male, half Horarian, late sixties or older. Master of Assassins, Malfesseus' teacher, monk of the Iron Tower. Rarely in the city. Not a clan member but treated as such.

Who is present when you ask the question?

"How many of these people have warrants out for their arrest?"
Chartok says: "None of them. We've never heard any of them and supposedly the Onice were finished. Do you have any idea how annoying this memo will be to write !  Uleric !!!"

To whom is this question posed?

Chartock, and passed on to the Red Ninja at some point if possible.  It can jsut be out there for discussion if not a direct question to someone.

Chartok says "Robert, when I said "we" thought the Onice were finished, we includes me. So we, me, I, don't know anything about their operation, resources etc.  In short: pestigate!"

"Yes, sir.

"Can we detain these individuals based on this information?"
"You can bring them in to question them but two things: we only have first names for most of them and we're short on facilities so there's no where to hold them and no real interrogation room."

A different topic, "Is Quarol officially allowed to be a constable?  Doesn't that require Icefian citizenship?"

A different topic, "Is Quarol officially allowed to be a constable?  Doesn't that require Icefian citizenship?"

Chartok glowers at you: "Robert, I'm not a master of politics or diplomacy, but you make me look like Aianna Cadmurren. According to us, the Kingdom that is, the Scaled Elves never stopped being Icefian Subjects. Now if you want to spend the next few weeks, I don't know breaking the ice in the harbor, or digging latrines, I can write to the Minister of State and get official clarification of our position regarding the Elves' status. Or . . . "

"Sorry, sir.  I am looking out for all of us.  If we make arrests under the command of someone that is not allowed to be in command, those could later be thrown out, and that would be terrible.  Worse yet, I don't want any of us arrested or fined for following illegitimate orders."

(enormous head shaking in disgust) "Are you a Gruweas follower?  Just go pestigate, more igate and less pest."
(muttering "And he was supposed to be the one with sense . . . ")

"I think the Gatori will be the easiest to locate.  Shall we target him first?"
Title: Re: Plan of Attack
Post by: Hero on November 05, 2013, 12:26:18 PM
The islander is probably the easiest to locate since he is not actively hiding.
Title: Re: Plan of Attack
Post by: Asinjin on November 05, 2013, 12:32:37 PM
"True, he should also stand out.  But to walk around openly we have to assume he is overconfident or justifiably confident in his protection.  Since that is a coin flip, I think the gatori is a better start."
Title: Re: Plan of Attack
Post by: Hero on November 05, 2013, 12:43:45 PM
"Agreed. So how do we locate a gatori in a scaled elf city that is trying not to be found?"

Since I seem to recall the Guardians having an interest in the Onice due to their demonstrated link to creatures of the lower planes, Bryvus pays a visit to Ullik to discuss what we've learned about the clan here in Portet. Maybe he knows what the "iron tower" is.

Would also like to see if Ullik could lend Bryvus some books/provide some tutoring regarding the planar knowledge (looking to get some ranks in that skill).

"What were those dog creatures?"

to DM: Does the vest that I am going to use have any symbols, marks on it?

"Quarol, how common are Gatori in this city?  If there are fewer than a dozen, I don't think it will be that hard."

To DM: Have we seen any on our daily walks?

The vest has some decoration but no meaningful symbols.

You have not seen any lizard folk at all.

Title: Re: Plan of Attack

"Brevis, so you know of any spells that can track lizard types?"
Know(arcana) = 9+12 = 21. "I don't think there's anything that's specifically geared towards locating scaled creatures. If there was, I certainly do not have access to that type of spell. Maybe something divine? Or maybe the clerics of Tyrogatore would know. There are generic spells such as 'locate creature' that may work, but again, I do not have access to them."

I remember suggesting last session that Ari contact Asinjin for some purpose, anyone remember why?

It was to decipher the grid.

The next day Chartok brings in Padra and a dwarf with a shaved head.

"Here's the news. The governor has requisitioned Bryvus for something. So two clerics are better than one, and far better than none, so this is Padra and Tannik."

It is immediately apparent to all of you that Tannik is a cleric of Tyrogatore. He appears young and is very fit.

Oh yeah. Asinjin gets a sending from Ari: "Stop by at your convenience. Portet is infested with Onice, could use help finding them. Bring the others if available. And livestock for the wyvern."

What happened after that announcement by Marius' messenger?
