Title: Not Another Rescue Mission
Post by: Asinjin on January 11, 2013, 12:07:50 AM
Start with experience:

Enzo - for more useful spells and forms than you can shake a stick at - 2800

Malchia - for doing your best with one arm and no spell components - 2000

Owen - for a tremendous use of spells - 3200

Isaac - the most fish out of water place he could be yet surviving - 2500

Saladien - getting sick gets you captured - 2000

Note that Owen and Enzo got bonus xp fr completing the mission of getting prisoners safely home.

Upon reaching Dramman, you are led into the city, up to the six level (there are seven city levels rising up the side of the mountain for those that don't know).

There, you are asked to tell Roflander, the mighty giant duke, everything that happened.  As you enter his massive (only because you are small, relatively, its not that big) throne room, He looks all of you over and says, "Welcome to Dramman, or Welcome back.  I would know all of your names, then we can eat."

You were allowed to freshen up, but not rest a night, before coming to meet him.  Obviously, some of you have met him, he is speaking to Malchia and the three dwarves when he asks for an introduction.

There is a dining table for shorter folk set off to the side.  In the room is a giant those of you who have been here before have seen, the cleric of Frostine.  Damon, the knight, is not here.  There are two servants in the room, one giant and one dwarven.

I step forward.  "I am Malchia.  Thank you for your hospitality."  I then step back and gesture to the dwarves to do the same.  I take time to hone in on magic in the area with Detect Magic during the introduction period.

There is less magic then you would expect for a throne room.

There is one abjuration of lesser power on the area.  The duke has one lesser abjuration aura as well as three magic items (ring - medium alteration, boots - lesser alteration, bracers - lesser alteration).  The cleric has two magic items (staff - medium necromancy and enchantment, ring - lesser abjuration; and one aura lesser abjuration).

It is the 20th day of the 9th month of 785.

The three dwarves you rescued introduce themselves to Roflander as well.  You then all have a fine meal.  When it is complete, Roflander asks, "What can you tell me of the camp to the north and our enemies?"

"I can do ye a bit better than that Duke."  Owen casts a minor illusion on the wall that mimics the portions of the camp that he saw (not an overhead view, but the view of the camp as seen through his own eyes).

"Lorenzo, can probably add more information, But 'Seeing is Believing' I always say.

So as to not waste time in session, assume at some point you will get to spend the treasure (if you want to).  So let me know via post or private communication what you want to purchase.

Do you give any of it to the dwarven prisoners you rescued?  Do you give any of it to Roflander?

The prisoners, who have thanked you (Owen, Enzo, and Hipolet) every day for rescuing them, have the following plans.

LorJek will find Marhand and and travel with him back to the forest.

The other Frozensky dwarf will find his dwarven militia he came with and also go back to the forest.

Note that the dwarven armies that came here are mostly still here and plan on staying through the winter to make sure the cultists and the giants don't return.

The two string mountain dwarf miners are going to try and find a way back home to the west.

After hearing all you have to say about the camp, Roflander nods.  "Thank you for all of that."  He makes no mention of his plans beyond that, but since none of you are staying, there is no reason he should.

Unless you have any questions, which you are free to ask over the next two real weeks, you are sent to your rooms.

Lorenzo provides Roflander with a detailed description of the camp's layout, quantity, composition, and disposition of the troops, inventory of their supplies, routines of the guards and their leadership.

I also describe the orb and the gate/painting we found in Bereth's quarters.

Does Rolflander have any need for the cat? Charm will last for almost 2 weeks.

Roflander smiles, "What a fine gift.  Yes, thank you.  You are forever welcome here, good Nipit."

Eventually Saladien is teleported back in to Dramman.  He let's you know that he was rescued by people from the bardic college.  They also found out the following about the camp that the sorcerer was from.

-The camp is in a bad way.
-Morale is down and desertions are feared.
-Internal strife is boiling over, and only the strong had of the giant cultist keeps them in place.
-The loss of the prisoners has made things worse.
-Some of the Chosen and giants are not from Habololy, he is.
-The giant leader is waiting for reinforcements, but it will be a long time.

Malchia I really do think it would be best for you to head to the bardic college in Icefia.  There are many loremasters who have studied under the great Melodi.  This is probably one of the few place in Habololy where you  might actually find some answers.

Saladien arrives at Dramman the morning after you arrive.  He arrives after the dinner with Roflander.

Can anyone there regenerate my arm or teleport me to Nefario?  If not, I have no use for a school full of clowns and jesters.

Take the help or not I really don't care.  However, I can't believe that your are getting many offers to help from anywhere else.  Even if you weren't such a miserable soul and did have people knocking down the door to help you on this mission I highly doubt you would find anyone else who could.  As for your arm and Nefario there are definitely people there that could help.  However, with an attitude like that I would be shocked if you would find someone willing to provide that help.   So do what you want and please decide quickly because my life will be much happier when I done dealing with you.

Are you still yapping...?  I lost you after you said that there are people that can help with my arm and Nefario.  Very well, I'll go to the college.  If what you say is true, perhaps someone there is competent enough to have studied the artifacts I seek.

As a note on who is present for these conversation; Malchia, Owen, Enzo, Issac, and Saladien.  Basically no one who lives in or near Dramman.  You all, because of that similarity, share one common room.

However, at least Owen or Enzo remember from their time with him, that Hipolet does not live near near, but rather right outside of Port Springs.  If he is to be believed, he has every intention of returning there soon.

Before anyone asks, there is no one in Dramman capable of teleporting.  With winter coming on, if you want to leave, you have to do it soon, or wait here until spring.

When word of your leaving spreads, the two dwaven miners that you rescued ask to join you, as they need to get to the dwarven kingdom.

You could be supplied up within three days.

When Roflander hears that your plan is to travel, he offers the following: "I have scouts in need of reconnaissance, they can accompany you to the border of the giant kingdom.  That should provide you some protection.  Once you are into the Frozensky forest or dwarven kingdom, you will be much safer."

At some point I assume we address the matter of our newfound wealth.

Here's what Enzo suggests:

We walked away with 250,000 gc worth of platinum, and an enchanted belt that Malchia is wearing that adds a +2 to caster level...figure that's worth ~40-50,000 gc based on the orange ion stone I tried to buy in Port Springs a while back (in the DMG, adds +1 CL for 30k)...let's call t 40k because I'm feeling generous.

That's a total pot of 290,000 gc to split.

First, we take any incurred direct expenses straight off the top. I burned a teleport scroll (1125 gc per DMG) and a cure moderate potion (300 gc). I think someone else used a potion or 2 as well? (Post if you did.)

Next we give each of the prisoners 1000 gc as compensation for the time they were imprisoned. 4 dwarves = 4000 gc.

The remainder we split between the 4 of us, the cut being directly proportional to the amount of risk and time invested in the rescue. Obviously, since I spent over a year in this frozen wasteland preparing for this, I think I deserve a bigger cut. And Malchia, since you were a "rescuee", your share is reduced to acknowledge the fact that we saved your a$$.

Enzo: 30%
Owen: 25%
Hipolet: 25%
Malchia: 20%

The blanket and the crown I suggest we give to Roflander. He could make best use of the blanket, I think, and the crown will be difficult for us to unload. And this way, since he's getting something out of it, Rolflander may be willing to help us exchange these 250 lb bars into something more portable.

Seems fair to me. Thoughts?

And Hipolet, did I hear correctly that you encountered some ropers in this area a while back? I'll give you 2000 gc to take me to them. I don't mean to fight them, just observe them for a while. I could get us out there pretty quick if you'd be willing to take to the air.

If Hiploet declines, I ask Roflander if there is anyone in the village who could lead me there.

Roflander, after discussing the situation with his money changers, offers to trade the platinum bards for gems, sapphires specifically.  He will take a 1% fee for the trade.  Then after you give him the blanket, he offers the exchange for no cost.

"I will keep the crown and give it to the barbarians as a show of allegiance.  Hopefully it will convince them to walk away from the cults."

"Enzo, I accept your arrangement out of respect for the reconnaissance work you did.  Please bear in mind though that none of us would have this new found wealth if it weren't for me disenchanting their wards and ransacking the chief's tent.  Nonetheless, this is a fine belt and the extra coin will come in handy on my travels."

"I plan to leave soon to find Nefario.  Will you be traveling to the college with the others or will you be going somewhere else?  We can arrange to meet after I find him."

We also would not have it if I had not been able to remove it from the giant's camp, or if Owen had not used his magic to transport it, or if Hipolet had not been guiding us back to Dramman. I'd say my proposal acknowledges your contribution, it far exceeds the 0.3% I suggested for the other prisoners.

To be fair, I'd say that the loss of your arm should be considered a direct expense. Assuming we can find a cleric to restore it, the cleric's commission will be taken out of the total pot before the split. Port Springs is a major hub of Smofarf's power on Habololy, there is probably someone there capable of regenerating it.

Add another three days on to the trip for that detour.

You can discuss the split of Hipolet's coin that he does not want, and how much is fair to give him.

Regardless, you start out on the road.  Enzo, Hipolet, Owen, Malchia, Saladien, Isaac, and the miners.

The trip is mostly uneventful.

The weather continues to get colder.  You have lots of scenic views of mountains.

You've earned it as much as anyone. Without your guidance we would still be wandering the wilderness. Take your share, I don't care what you do with it. Donate it to your favorite religion. Bury it in the woods. Buy a small town. Whatever makes you happy.

70 days into your trip, the dwarven miners leave you and go to a small town.  From there, they can make their way north with others to their home.

"Thanks for you help.  We are forever in your debt.  If you ever need anything, and happen to be in the area, don't hesitate.  By Smofarf, we swear a debt to you."
