Title: A Well Chosen Path
Post by: Asinjin on March 07, 2012, 12:52:32 AM
Start with xp:

Entire Group - for getting to the temple successfully as not fugitives from the law - 500 each

Artemus - for annihilating a shadow with one spell - 1500

Bandrig - for a clever bathroom story - 1500

Gnevil - for crafting your yet to be seen dangerous device - 1500

Harrick - for using a feat you didn't know you had - 1500

Marston - for going two more days in game without firing your gun - 1500

The 1500 xp may be used to get a level before we start next session.  The 500xp for reaching the temple may not.  That written, I don't think anyone is close enough to have gotten a level.

So, 2000 total for most of us?  I was confused by the post.

Yeah, i'm only 1500 or so over 7th, so it'll be a couple more sessions.

The day you reach the temple is the 24th day of the 11th month.

2000xp for each person, I just wanted to note that you all earned a preset xp bonus for reaching the temple not as fugitives, an impressive task after over three weeks traveling as foreigners through Hertoplowis.

Probation doesn't count as fugitive.

Marston would like to take the time to thank Harrick for using his girth to block the brunt of that lightning bolt.  Way to literally take one for the team.

Is retreating after our first encounter in a dungeon a sound tactic? That was one mean DC for a 3rd level lightning bolt.

I don't know if we really have an option to retreat.  I think we might need to attack him before he sends another LB at us.  I am all for retreating if we can.

The trap door behind you is still there, although it is worse for wear now.

The staircase down is about fifteen feet from trap door to bottom.  You six are covering all of the length of the stairs, in single file.  The corridor is five feet across.

Remember we are in Falan's domain, and Undead are more powerful.  This might be the reason for the lightening bolts intensity....

"And no amount of personal bulk can block a lightening bolt.. grumble.. that's just silly"

Assuming he survives, Emitx says, "It did miss three of us, I can't think of any other way that might have happened."

Thinking wasn't in your job description!

I used my knowledge undead + 9, + random.org (16) = 25 to understand the probable saves of a creature like this. Concentrating on the Will of the creature. And taking into consideration where we are.

I make a knowledge undead check to tell us what kind of undead it is.  Total = 22

I am not sure what you are looking for, the saves of a lightning bolt it throws or potential saves of abilities it might have?

In the 3.2 seconds you've been viewing it, which include dodging a lightning bolt, I will give you that it is an intelligent corporeal undead.  More than that will have to wait for your turn.

He is trying to figure out how strong its will is  So the creatures will save.

No, I figured if I knew about an undead entity of a perceived power, I would know how likely it would be to resist spells I could cast.  I figured this was something I would know just cause of who i am, and didn't require much thought.

that was directed towards Artemus' question.  Harrick thinks that any undead that throws spells will be pretty resistant to non-damaging spells.

I don't think Marston needs to make a knowledge firearms check to know that undead don't like bullets.  As soon as I can, I unload a silenced pistol into the creature.  Marston now has two attacks.  How does that work with firearms?

Assuming you don't have a multi-shot firearm, then you have to have abilities that allow you to re-load quickly.  Which I believe you do.  If so, you have to shoot, re-load-shoot as part of a full round action.  That's means no movement in that round, other than a 5 foot step.

In that case, I have the appropriate skills to fire twice.  Plus, if we get an initiative roll (it stands to reason that this was the surprise round), then my opponent is considered flat-footed against my ranged attacks this encounter.  I will also need to make a sense motive check as a free action before initiative (DC = 20+target's BAB) in order to apply my sixth sense.

We got rid of that rule from some reason.  I don't agree with it but I was overuled.

Thanks to Gnevil and Artemus' detections, there was no surprise round, you can all roll initiative.

Also it wouldn't quite apply in this case because the creature already won initiative and fired upon us.

I think Malchia is referring to Marsten's pistolier ability that makes any opponent acting after him flat-footed in the round he draws his pistol.

Are there walls on either side of the stairs? The stairs wooden or stone?

The stair is in a narrow stone corridor.  The stairs are made of stone.

If everyone wants to roll initiative at home and post, that is fine.

So it looks like we go: Marston, Harrick, Gnevil, Bandrig, then Artemus....with Emitx somewhere in there as well.

Which order were you in going down the stairs?

Emitx was leading the way before the trap door, where was he on the stairs?

He was significantly ahead of Bandrig.  Probably at point blank range from the lich (Bandrig assumes the worst as this is the exact situation he said he would not participate in at the beginning and is clearly a direct violation of multiple passages from the DBCS)

Dark stone corridor...check

Underground...check

Trapped entrance...check

Likely powerful under guard...check

Still no runes...visible at least

and your paladin is gone
