Title: Tenacious, Persistent, and in Deep Trouble
Post by: Asinjin on October 08, 2014, 08:35:59 AM
Once this fellow is subdued, we bind him effectively.  We remove all the components, items, and other things that can be quickly removed.  I don't think we have time to strip him or take a longer time.  "Can someone tell if he has any active magic?"

We also need to grab the other two and get all three of these off the dock.

Big Rob asks, "How long do these wings last?"  Where is the closest safe location?"

Quorl would know a safe place if one is needed.

"Good work men.  Let's get them all out of here.  Rob,  if your able take the other two (wherever we decide) and hurry back.   Myself and the others will escort our new friend here."

Is he conscious?

"Let's hear what you have to say for yourself before this gets official."

I can't quite make it out, but if I'm allowed to witness their questioning back at HQ, I'm sure I can figure it out.  It'll take some time, but I assure you I can learn it.

The language was not similar to human or demi-human.

He fights you until you knock him out. He is much stronger than any of you but not skilled at unarmed combat.

What do you do after you knock him out?

Rob is Strength 22 right now, is he still stronger?

Remove all spell components and possibly magic items.  Gag him, and have Gneetah expertly tie him up with manacles.

"Where is our closest safe location, sergeant?"

Not stronger. He has a torc, a vest, a light belt and a pair of boots. When you take the boots off you see that he has fins on the back of his legs and webbed feet.

Being large for a while still, I pick up the three bound men and head in the direction the sergeant selects.

What is the crowd doing?

Rob asks, "Gneetah, can you carry the items?  Have you already taken all of the possible valuables from the bowmen?"

OOC: Is the plan to not play out our interrogation of these men in person, but on the boards?

Yes, I can carry the items.  I have already stripped the two ninjas that assaulted us of all their possessions and read them their rights.

There's not really a crowd; people are at various doorways and windows and a few on the docks. Looking at you and the wall of fire.

Preferably on the boards.

The wall only lasts six rounds after Vassilli got daze, so its probably down at this point.

I thought that's how you I'd his items?  In any case it's an abjuration, a transmutation and divination. The first two are weak, the third is moderate.

From the desk of Sergeant Quorl:

"I speak Horarian."

"We need a place to drop of those two, and then a place where we can question that one before we have to deliver him to the first deputy."

Quorl uses his knowledge of the city to determine the nearest temple or shrine that is friendly.

You reach the Grean settlement without incident.  All three of your captives regain consciousness just before you arrive.  Aeciel meets you and escorts you to a fortified house. He tells you: "This is the place of disagreements. You are welcome to use it as long as you need."

He lightning bolted me.  Could that possibly be construed in self defense?

Is mental domination of less intelligent creatures (the other fops) and hiding their true nature a crime?

They rushed Tannic and threw him out of the way.  Assault on a constable.  That is a crime, correct?

I don't think we did anything harmfully offensive before they sonic blasted us.

Is your first question an internal one?

Yes mental domination of any creature is a crime.  They did not rush Tannic, he was grappling them when they fled.

Your last is incorrect

The lightning bolt in self defense was an internal question.

"Who attacked before he attacked us?"  Robert was still on the roof farther away then he could see when that happened.

Tannic had handcuffed two and then had to brace for the rush of the others.  Then overbore him and throw him aside so they could get to their companions.

Tannic had handcuffed two and then had to brace for the rush of the others.  Then overbore him and throw him aside so they could get to their companions.

The sequence of events:

You noticed two of the fopish young men following you at a distance. Quorl elected to hide in an alley and surprise them while the rest of you proceeded closer to the Redleaf warehouse. As you approached you observed the two archers on the roof.
Quorl confronted the fops and after clearly becoming uncomfortable answering his questions they attempted to flee. Tannic ran them down and grappled them aided by Vasilli's powers. Rob and Gneetaugh rushed towards the archers who had opened fire on you. As Bryvus and Quorl came to assist you the band of fops approached to rescue their fellows. Bryvus began unleashing a series of "fell" spells on the gang that had freed their fellows from Tannic. After Bryvus unleashed the fog of doom the leader began blasting you with the cone of sound. Vasilli responded with a wall of fire that cut the leader off from the rest of the crowd. He responed with a lightning bolt and Vasilli in turn used a bolt of flame. Eventually Quorl and Rob subdued him.

That's not correct. Bryvus unleashed the first of his "fell" spell on one of the Horarians. Then I ran back to the fops and was immediately caught in and dazed by the first sonic cone that was aimed at Vasilli. I certainly didn't shoot first since I was dazed the first few rounds of that part of the fight.

Prince Uzzar, what business is it that you and your people are conducting here on the prime material plane?

"If no one has formally said so, welcome to the Kingdom of Icefia."  I leave to get the glass of water and return with it, but not yet with the bucket.

Vassili asks "Do we need someone of a higher pay grade, since we have a prince in captivity here.  And of an elemental plane. "

That question and my response, out of earshot of the prince.  "Let's question him first and then perhaps you are right."

"Can someone conjure up some dull noise so the prisoners can't hear us out hear?"

"Maybe we will need our own prince to talk to this one."

While I am outside getting his glass of water, if anyone has any questions for the prince (I relay what little I have learned so far), I take notes and when I return I bring paper and pen along with the water.

Quorl will go in with one of the Horarians.

In Horaian..."I don't suppose you would like to tell me who sent you?  Probably not much I can do for you at this point but I guess that depends on what you have to say."

He will then do an inventory of his tattoos and markings to see how they match up to the ones we learned while investigating the Onice's.

He looks at you like you're a little slow. "We swim?  As for how long we stay, only for a day or two once a month, of your time, before our parties.  My "men" are Triton. You would call me Gen or Gensai.  I implore you to let me go before nightfall. I have told my men you have not harmed me but they will come in force if they think you will imprison me or you cannot keep me safe."

"The gate appears permanent. It lies just outside the harbor, where the depths begin.  You may refer to me by my name, just as I would you.

Safe from the wolves. The same ones that are preying upon the women of your city. I would be a great prize for them."

"We started after the harbor thawed. The wolves were alread here. We fight them when we must. They set ambushes for us on this side of the portal and sometimes here in the streets. They are more than a match for one or even several of my men so I have started accompanying them."

Sense Motive total 23 to get a feel for why he is talking the way he is.

Is impersonating a human while being a planar creature a crime?

How about taking a willing person to another plane?

What age would a person have to be according to the laws of Icefia to consent to such a thing?

After he answers this round of questions, I say, "I think your bucket should be ready, I will be right back."

Once outside the room, "Does anyone know anything about the other planes or a portal to the plane of water?"  I describe what he has said so far and ask anyone if they have any thoughts on where to take the questioning next.

"We have come here simply because the new portal opened and it is so close by.  We invite generally humans, elves and half elves, though we have heard of a race called Nippits?  They sound intriguing as well.  We have not taken anyone, in the sense that it implies abduction. Your impression is that he is being truthful and has experience in diplomacy.  It is not a crime to take a willing person of majority age anywhere. Majority age is 16. It would not be a crime just to impersonate another race. (See, In Re: Summerlight, John (AKA the Valiant), William et al.)

"The wolves are very dangerous. Ordinarily my men would only come in pairs, as it's unlikely we will find large groups of young women, though we've had more success than I would have guessed. The wolves hunt in packs at all times, so we have been traveling in larger groups as well.  They are were beasts and seek prey to eat and to turn."

Weren't you paying attention when the Lord Governor addressed us that day after the clerics of Lakius were murdered?! The cult of the Dark One is using portals from the plane of water to bring their allies here. Or something like that. We need to report this to the Governor and Master Ullik immediately.

Like my men they may have difficulty in ordinary conversation, but that is not how they behave so it is not much help to you.  As for communicating with me, once I leave this plane it would require powerful magic. Perhaps I wasn't clear.  Would you like to press charges against the Redleaves for anything tonight?  If so, let me know what for.  If not, then consider your options carefully.  Right now we have you on assaulting a Constable, disorderly conduct, slander, and resisting arrest.  I'm sure there's more, but I would need to consult my Sergeant for the exact details.  Please reconsider providing details on what you were doing when you first saw us.  I'm having difficulty believing that you mistook a group of uniformed Constables for Redleaves before you attacked.  It also strikes me as odd that you proceeded to verbally assault us once you confronted us and realized we weren't Redleaves.  Even more perplexing is the part where you tried to kill us once we asked you to cease and desist.  And finally, let's not forget the part where you resisted arrest while I politely read you your rights.  I even gave you the courtesy of saying them in your native tongue just like I'm speaking to you now.

"Please be advised that, albeit your perrogative, your silence in this instance gives us probable cause to search the warehouse you were standing on and also grants us the right to seize all assets contained within said warehouse.  I doubt your employer would view this turn of events favorably.  Plea bargaining with us may be your best chance to survive this mess.  I'll give you a moment to think it over."  At this time, I call Sergeant Quorll in for assistance.  I explain to him everything I said to them and ask how he'd like to proceed.

Everyone gets a flat 650xp.

The prince tells you he can return in a week or send a servant in three days. Your choice.

You have the next two days off.

On the third day you are informed that all leave has been cancelled and all deputies will be working double shifts for the following week. The blockade ends in 24 hours.

Sending the servant would be better in hopes we can get the list before the blockade is lifted.

Did we get xp for the 2nd constable session this season?  I don't see it on my sheet.

Sending the servant would be better in hopes we can get the list before the blockade is lifted.

The morning you are instructed to prepare for the end of the blockade you find a garishly dressed man waiting for you outside HQ. He appears as a Horarian but is wearing garb that makes him stand out. His tunic is bright silk in paisley pattern, his hat is sky blue and his sword sheath (a broad saber) is iridescent fish scale.

In barely passable common he says: I am the prince's emissary. He hands you a scroll and a smooth piece of blue granite.

The scroll reads: Sergeant Quorl, I hope this missive finds you well. In total eleven women are currently guests in my kingdom. Eight are Horarians and three are half-elves. All were destitute and have indicated preliminarily their desire to stay permanently. No decision will be made until an emmissary from your kingdom can come and speak with them in person. Governor Arishimoto would seem the logical choice. Perhaps you could speak with him and make the arrangements? (Here there is a list of the women's names)

Four other young women have come and been returned to the city. Two  requested to leave. One was removed when we discovered she was a Dresta follower and one was not well. We returned her to the Temple of Falan. (Here are four more names).

In thanks for the manner in which you resolved our misunderstanding I have included a gift. It is a summoning stone. It will call a water elemental to aid you.

Returned to the temple of Falan that no one can enter?

Yeah, that sounds a little fishy if you ask me...
