Title: Possible New Feat
Post by: Asinjin on August 02, 2012, 09:21:50 AM
Martial Weapon Ki! - when using a weapon in combat, the monk may choose to use their weapon damage, or their unarmed damage.  The Monk may still benefit from descriptors from the weapon they are using, such as white oak, or cold iron.

Proposed by Zunder.

The idea was they can extend their Ki to the weapon in hand to increase it's damage.  Really only useful for high level monks.

This ability kind of exists in a magic weapon in the magic item compendium that does that. Page 201.

"SCORPION KAMA - This +1 kama deals damage equal to your unarmed strike damage (if that is greater than the normal damage for a kama)."

So I think it's reasonable mechanically. Either make it a feat specific to one kind of weapon (requiring weapon focus) or make it a weapon enhancement like thundering or keen.

You could also add another feat that allows you to extend your flurry of blows to atypical weapons. Though I kind of feel like that already exists, just can't remember where.

Thre is a feat that allows you to extend flurry of blows to non-monk weapons.  The feat allows only one additional weapon.

Yes, you can already use flurry with monk weapons, bo's, etc..
