I assume that most of you have figured it out, so I am putting the topic here for discussion.
The gnolls will be involved in some capacity in the Fey War in the great forest.
Level still to be determined, so for now just go with ideas.
As I mentioned before, you will all be litter mates, and hence will know each other well and be allied. So far, the ideas that have been taken are:
-Ranger Giant Killer
-Sorcerer
Some others have hinted at ideas, but I won't post them until they finalize the ideas with me or post them.
-
The real question is what side of the conflict will we be on?
-
That is a question which will not be answered yet.
-
Here is a question I can answer: you will start at a minimum level of 4 (that's 4 levels of classes).
-
You will all be 19 years old (adult for a gnoll is 15), so the equivalent of 22 for a human.
-
Updated list:
-Ranger Giant Killer
-Sorcerer
-Monk
-
They must all be male.
-
They must all be male.
boooo.....
-
They must all be male.
double boo.. looking forward to being a real itch.. #scratch
-
I am triple glad I caught that one, since it appears as if three of you were going to be female.
-
Some thoughts on Prestige Classes that would work:
-Great Forest Scout
-Treewalker
-Huntsman
-Marksman
-Great Forest Lumberjack
-Animal Guard
-Beast Striker
-
List of submitted gnolls:
-Sorcerer
-Ranger Giant Killer
-Bard Berserker
-Monk Cleric
-Fighter
Still leaves room for a full cleric, a rogue, a crafter, a psychic warrior, or of course doubles.
-
A collection of common gnoll names:
Akrak, Apak, Atik, Fikret, Fikri, Goka, Goksu, Gurkan, Hakan, Haluk, Harun, Hifzi, Hizir, Isik, Kaan, Kamil, Kivak, Koskal, Kukuk, Kutay, Raki, Rasik, Rifak, Sadik, Sadkir, Seker, Sekef, Sezek, Sukru, Tarik, Tarkan, Tafak, Tefik, Tonguk, Tunk, Tunkay, Vok, Vafik, Vokan, Yekta, Yekel

Grand Mutt Tarkan! sold!
-
Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaann!!!!!!!
-
There is a good article in Races of the Wild on gnolls.
Also note, that the Gnoll Bow is a bigger than normal longbow (as gnolls are bigger than human by an average of a foot). It is a martial weapon and it deals 1d10 damage instead of 1d8. You must be over six and a half feet tall to use it.
-
Grand Mutt Tarkan! sold!
Do Gnolls speak with evil English accents?
-
According to the Habololy Accents Guide, they use a Congolese accent.

Do Gnolls speak with evil English accents?
I believe he was referring to "Grand Moff Tarkan" from "A new hope" and his evil english accent.

Thank you Zunder for ackgnolleging the joke...
-
A note on gnoll creation, they do not get a bonus racial feat at 1st level. The listed feats are ones that they can choose from with their 1st level standard feat.
-
Another note, just for reference. The Great Forest, where this campaign will be taking place, is the size of the country of India. That does not include the boiled forest. It is 30% heavy growth forest, 50% medium growth, and 20% light growth. The gnolls live in medium growth and some light growth.
-
An update on the eight, here is what we most likely have so far:
- Rogue
- Sorcerer
- Ranger / Giant Killer
- Monk / Cleric
- Fighter / Cleric
- Fighter
- Bard / Berserker
- unknown
-
I will be sending out an excel character sheet soon will all of the basics you need to know filled in for your character. If there is anything you can think of that you want listed (note these would be things that everyone would have) please let me know.
-
Based on player availability, we will not be doing the gnolls until the summer, so everyone has some time.
-
Here is a bit to help with your character creation:
You will be given a point allotment for ability scores.
Your scores must fall in the following ranges:
Str 10 - 20
Dex 8 - 18
Con 10 - 20
Int 6 - 18
Wis 8 - 18
Cha 2 - 16
Those listed scores are before the 4th level point addition. I will be sending out the total points you can distribute later.
-
Part 3 of the gnoll story has been posted.
When making your gnoll (unless I tell you otherwise), you get 80 points to distribute among your ability scores. That includes your 1 point for 4th level.
It doesn't seem like near, but you have four months until these characters should be completed.
-
Is the 20 point strength limit before or after racial bonuses?
-
Since you are starting at 4th, ignore the bonuses and penalties when putting your abilities in, I built the mins and maxes to represent those possibilities.
-

What do you mean by this. We can add 1 extra point or are you taking other stuff into consideration?
-
My statements don't flow well, so let me try and clarify.
-You get 80 points to spend on ability scores
-You may get more points later, after you turn in your characters
-the mins and maxes listed take into account that a gnoll could have higher or lower than normal and into account your parentage
-do not make adjustments for the gnoll pluses and minuses
-you may add the +1 to a score after your 80 and whatever else I give you, but you will do that later
-
List so far of character classes:
-Ranger / Huntsman
-Ranger / Giant Slayer
-Ranger / Sorcerer
-Cleric / Monk
-Cleric / Fighter
-Berserker / Bard
-Rogue
-unknown
-
Side note, I will have Craft Wondrous Item, so I could potentially make some magic items for the litter.
Options will be limited as a sorcerer though since I don't have a very wide selection of spells available, but I could team up with one of the clerics to expand the list of items I could make...
-
Is birth order determined by the order in which you receive completed characters?
-
I will not reveal birth order or how it is determined until later.
-
List so far of character classes:
-Ranger / Rogue
-Ranger
-Ranger / Sorcerer
-Cleric / Monk
-Cleric / Fighter
-Berserker / Bard
-Rogue
-Fighter
In addition, 7 of the eight have prestige classes ready. Six of those are ones that have never been played before, nice work.
-
Home stretch, if you don't have you character done, get it done. The list is:
Fighter / Cleric
Rogue
Sorcerer / Ranger
Ranger
Ranger
Monk / Cleric
Fighter
Berserker / Bard

To get it out of the way, does everyone speak Gnoll and Common? Let's find out how you are all communicating with each other and those you meet,

Yes, Gnoll and Common.
-
Yes, Gnoll and Common.
Me too.
-
Since he has very limited skill points I will likely only have gnoll.
-
Only Gnoll for me as well
-
Since at least two are speaking only in gnoll, I will set the general rule that all conversation in the campaign will be in gnoll unless otherwise stated.
-
Gnoll and common but not literate
-
Another question that would have been answered by this point is what speed do you travel. Anyone have a higher or lower speed compared to the standard gnoll?

Large size speed

Nope.
Side question, you going to tell us specifically what our heirlooms do?
-
Not unless you figure it out or its obvious (fey slaying arrows for example).
-
Scratch, by himself only moves at 18ft. If he holds onto someone (and they don't purposely run him into trees, thorns, poison ivy, etc...) he can move at the normal 35ft
-
I can walk scratch. I move at normal speed for a gnoll with banded mail on.

Aren't you large?
-
Yes
-
I don't think that will make a difference. He can hold on to me either way.
-
The Freakishly Large gnoll has a +10 movement.

The Freakishly Large gnoll has a +10 movement.
So does a 3rd level monk. I miscalculated my movement. Alone I move at 23ft, with a guide it would be 45ft
-
I move at 35.
-
The answer to the question appears to be 35, although at least half of the brothers move 45 or more.
-
I will not reveal birth order or how it is determined until later.
Was this answered?
-
As soon as everyone has a name, I will reveal it.
-
As soon as everyone has a name, I will reveal it.
(grumble, grumble) Even Tox know own name. (muttering) and people say Tox dumb one.
-
Drax, Scratch, Grozik, unknown, Ozzle, Tox, Khraz, Tarkin
-
Out of curiosity, I have compiled the averages for the brothers' ability scores:
Str: 18
Dex: 16
Con: 18
Int: 12
Wis: 14
Cha: 9

Is it wrong that I'm disappointed in our collective Intelligence score? I applaud the team coming together to keep Charisma at 9, but a 12 Int is simply unacceptable. We're going to need to destroy some brain cells tonight in order to get that number below double digits.
-
It would only take killing two of you.
-
A clarification on xp. You all start with 10,000 xp.

Tox does his part. If he gets killed this could be one of the smartest groups ever.
-
Sorry, i needed the skill points to make me sneakier.
