Title: Building a Better Angel Trap
Post by: Asinjin on March 24, 2017, 12:24:42 AM
To start, experience:

For Difficult religious dilemmas and how to deal with them, Finn and Artemus each get 1200.

For trying to arrest the angel and surviving to tell the tale, Marston gets 2000

For escaping the plans of a crusader army to capture you for a third time, Harrick gets 2000

After the scene settles down, the mayor sends word to Artemus to arrange a meeting with Gnorton.

I assume Harrick.. is line 3

You are right, I corrected it.  If anyone got a level, let me know.

The area around Harrick's shrine is full of activity after the battle.  The effort to clean up the trap is much larger than the effort to create it.  In addition, two hundred tinkers are clamoring about amazed how well their plan worked and equally amazed that the surge did not blow up anything nearby.  The only consequence appears to have been a city wide power outage for several minutes.

As word spreads through the town, there are many conflicting emotions: sadness over the defeat and banishing of an angel; excitement over the success of technology and the tinker plan; relief that the ordeal of the past few days is over.

Marston is equally saddened by what happened.  The last thing I wanted to do was banish a goodly angel fighting for Falan, but I can't have lawlessness running amuck through Grimhold and I can't tolerate Harrick or any of the citizens of this town being terrorized.  It's my sworn duty to uphold the law and protect the citizens of Grimhold from terrorism, whether it be foreign, domestic, or extra-planar.

Out of curiosity, how long does it take to craft another Brawler?  I have the skills and I have Gnevil's design scroll, but I'm unsure of what I need to do to build another.

The Craft DC is 20 and the amount of time depends on the results of your roll, but is you rolled a 20 it would take 15 days (higher rolls would take less time).

Harrick smiles broadly that law and order won the day.  He opens the temple to all, offering free magical services in both clerical and wizard. He writes on the outside of the temple "Vestaleon wants you to be the best you can be today, and the best you for eternity"  Happily helping people to improve in their lives on their track to being greater version of themselves.

If you don't have a permit to hang that sign, Marston's pulling it down.  There will be no undeath promotion in this city.  You're entitled to your beliefs, and it's good that you're offering free services, but I can't agree with becoming undead to further your existence.

The sign meets the regulations for allowed signs as long as its on his property.

Although a time is not yet arranged, word spreads by the night of the angel trap day that the mayor is looking for individuals willing to go and meet with the crusaders.

Some are calling it a posse.

Marston is required to go because of your job.  Klaus cannot go because they don't want to have to top two law enforcers out of the city.

The Mayor, as chief negotiator, will be going.

I talk to mayor and find out what his purpose is for going down there.   If we go down there with a confrontational attitude then this will end poorly.   We need to gather our most diplomatic people together to talk with him in an area.  I don't think it is wise to go into the middle of his camp.

The mayor wants to talk to him about stopping the attacks.  Grimhold cannot allow daily assaults.  Meeting in between Grimhold and their camp at a tent is fine.

If Marston isn't able to legally take it down, Finn will ask Harrick to remove it. "I've stood behind you when your life was threatened by the crusaders because you had not done anything to deserve death. I cannot abide by you promoting undeath in the lands that Habastly appointed me to protect. Please take it down."

This will end in death. When is the mayor planning to have this meeting?

He has not set a time and date, he needs Artemus to contact Gnorton.

I agree with Finn and that was my concern.  We really need to plan out where and how many before I contact Gnorton at all.

If you do not agree to immediately contact Gnorton, the Mayor uses other means to arrange the meeting.

I tell him to lay out a plan first.  I never said I wouldn't contact him.   I figured he would be savvy enough to go in with a solid plan.

"The plan is to meet with him and discuss how we can end the constant harassment of the city and its citizens.  To ask how long the army is going to be stationed outside Grimhold, and what conditions have to occur for them to leave.  To ask if he is responsible, for the record, for the attacks on Harrick and the citizens of Grimhold, including our sheriffs and deputies."

Harrick will change the outside side to say "Vestaleon wants you to be the best you can be today"  and not until you get inside it says the rest.  Asking Finn if that makes him happy.

The deputy that had the flare gun is named Varner Gardhall and he is human near thirty years old with no wife but several kids.  He gets deputized in times of need and then resigns.  He is a life long resident of Grimhold and known to be rough.

Marston knows of him and has worked on occasion through the years.  Artemus knows him as well, but has not interacted with as often.  He weapon is a Quagear VAF 777, a large size ammunition epbul.  The weapon itself is not expensive, but it is rare because the ammunition is rare and expensive.

Gnorton has already admitted to it so that isn't the questions.  We have already asked him to stop and he said he wouldn't stop until Harrick is dead.  So I could send him a sending to see if he is willing to be at a neutral point to discuss things.  However, we need to let him know the terms of meeting.  (how many people, weapons, where exactly, etc.)

The mayor nods and says, "Okay, I will think about that."  Artemus doesn't hear from him again about arranging a meeting with Gnorton.

One thing you all notice at some point the next day is that there are posters hung around the city asking the question, "What is the MAYOR doing about the attacks?  When will he stop them?  Is it time for a change?"

Artemus later can be heard grumble to Finn about the Mayor and his stupid politics and not taking his time with the meeting.  Worrying about being elected over the safety of the town.

Meet half way between towns.  Two days noon.  Bring town leaders, negotiators, Harrick, Falan clerics.  Open to resolution.

Do you want a basic leg, or any upgrades?

Although you don't have a leg design scroll, Broat has one and he will let you work off of it.

I know I probably don't have enough time to finish, but I'll work on building a new Brawler during the time before we meet with Gnorton.

13 (WotC Dice Roller) + 11 ranks (Craft Firearms) + 2 (INT) = 26

That comes to 11 1/2 days.  Since you have a day job that is different from crafting, it will take a bit longer.  The good news is the city will cover the cost of construction.

That will require a Knowledge (Robotics) check of only DC10.  After that, give me your craft (clickers) check.

I have the Masterwork Tinker kit I got after the battle with the giant house that killed Gnevil.  Can that be used in the construction of the Brawler?  If so, I'll use it and add that to the check.  I believe it adds a +2 to the check but I'm not certain.

I also have a robotic Tinker kit that was retrieved after the same giant house battle with the vampire/tinker.  I'd be happy to let Artemus use it for the construction of the leg (or anything else he may need it for).

Yes, that will help, the time is reduced to just over ten days.

The clergy of Habastly will offer to moderate the proceedings and prepare a meeting spot. I am a neutral party in that I think both sides are acting moronically. And really all I seek to accomplish out of this situation is zero loss of life.

I will seek out the mayor and Gnorton in person under a white flag to arrange the meeting.

Both the mayor and Gnorton find Habastly to be a good mediator and agree to you setting the place.  The time is set for three days after the second angelic assault.  What will be discussed is still being talked about by the mayor and others.

The shrine of Habastly is accepting donations if anyone wants to part with a small portion of their newfound wealth to offset the cost of the consumable magic items Finn used in the rescue of the Falanic crusaders from the undead and the rescue of the soon-to-be-undead Harrick from the Falanic crusaders. Used just over 2000 gc worth of scrolls over those 4 encounters.
